This came up in another forum. IIRC, 34 states now have a law that compels electors to vote with the popular vote.

Which begs the question, what are the electors for?

The original intent was to have the Electoral College function as a check on Mob Mentality: if the Great Unwashed were to elect an unqualified tyrant wannabee, the EC could then overrule them. You can see how well THAT has worked. So the EC remains because no constitutional amendment about anything can pass in these times.

During the coronavirus pandemic, television shows are having to get creative to keep their actors safe. CNN's Jeanne Moos shows how one soap opera developed an unusual safety protocol.

Green Bay on ‘verge of a crisis’ as virus overwhelms hospitals, Wisconsin doctor says
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/10/08/wisconsin-doctor-green-bay-on-the-verge-of-a-crisis.html

Interesting....my niece was scheduled to work as a supplemental RN in GreenBay back when the whole COVID thing started but the gig was cancelled due to low demand. Maybe she'll be going now. She lives in MT so even WI would help shorten the winter season for her.

...and DJT will appear from a balcony, over his minions, spewing disease literally and figuratively.

Who ARE this 2k humans that are so blind to this total hypocrisy? I wonder if he'll be wearing his proposed military uniform redesign WITH A BELT, so he can look the part of his heroes??? Wonder if he'll add a Sam Browne belt with a sword and the knee high boots to complete his fashion/political statement?

...very disturbing.

I wonder if it's changed his perception of "the media".
I stopped trusting the media for my information when it went hard against Trump in 2016. I got rid of my cable. It’s all opinion anyway, so I’d rather come up with my own. I find a little bit of truth here and a little there, and I pile it together to see what it makes.

The most dangerous idea of our times -- "It's all opinion anyway". In other words : "there is no objective reality". Or that a career investigative reporter's work is no more rigorous, informed or principled than some random blogger on the internet.

This 13-year-old tested negative for COVID-19 – then she spread it to her whole family
https://bgr.com/2020/10/10/coronavirus-news-cdc-girl-spread-entire-family-asymptomatic-carrier/
As to how the outbreak started and managed to spread so far, the report relays that the 13-year old, along with her parents and two brothers, went to a family get together with 15 additional relatives this summer. The gathering included people from five households from four states. Fourteen of the relatives, including the 13-year old, ended up staying in the same 5-bedroom, two-bathroom house. While some relatives stayed in the house for 8 days, others stayed for as long as 25 days.

The report goes on to note that no one in the house wore face masks or adhered to social distancing guidelines. And to make matters worse, the report indicates that “an additional six relatives (an aunt, an uncle, and four cousins) visited for 10 hours on day 3 and 3 hours on day 10, when six overnight attendees were potentially infectious…”

Of the 14 relatives who shared the house, 12 ended up testing positive for the coronavirus.

Now what’s fascinating about this story, and also scary, is that the 13-year old actually tested negative for the coronavirus four days before embarking on the family trip. The report indicates that she took a rapid antigen test after potential exposure to the virus even though she was asymptomatic. Throughout the ordeal, her only symptom was nasal congestion which manifested two days after her negative COVID test.

The CDC draws several conclusions from the case study above. For starters, the study illustrates how asymptomatic kids and teens can transmit the virus to adults. Further, the study shows that rapid antigen tests aren’t as reliable as PCR tests (nasal swabs) and shouldn’t be the only indicator for a negative diagnosis:

CDC report on this:
Adolescent with COVID-19 as the Source of an Outbreak at a 3-Week Family Gathering — Four States, June–July 2020
https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6940e2.htm?s_cid=mm6940e2_w

I continue to be amazed at how the CDC and other supposed authorities have proceeded from the faulty, illogical, dangerous, and outright stupid assumption that children wouldn't transmit the virus - and have continued to use that as the base assumption even as the evidence mounted that, just as with almost every other damned contagious virus, they do spread it just as adults do. These idiots need to go back to the first year of medical school, and then go into another line of work, like cosmetic surgery. That includes Anthony effing Fauci, who has shown time and again that he values his job more than the lives of the US populace. After the Trump Administration, these are the authorities most responsible for the widespread infections in the US. Not unlike UN soldiers raping local women in areas they are supposed to be protecting from violence, this politically expedient but ultimately murderous behavior is inexcusable, and really makes me despair both for humanity's survival, and for us even deserving to survive.

All you have to do is look at how chicken pox, ringworm, pinkeye, common cold, "stomach flu" rips through a kindergarten class to know that's moronic to think kids won't spread a virus.

oilpan4 : I agree with you (except the moronic term), but a casual survey of friends in pre and elem school here in FW claim the kids are surprisingly disciplined and responsible about the masks and distancing.
Time will tell how well we will navigate this scourge without a temporary total shutdown.

Around here, I'm not sure I've ever seen a single kid wearing a mask...no, wait: I did see a couple when I ventured into a Blaze Pizza shop to pick up a pizza order the other day. I'm still waiting to see if last week's forays into businesses (Blaze, got my scooter inspected and paid inside, the drive through at the pharmacy) got me infected.

I'm still trusting my understanding that density is key. It's not likely any of us will become infected by a random spray of covid particles by a passing breath/cough. It has to be rather dense, over a period of time. (In a more earthy sense, it's like trying to get pregnant: density, timing, etc...of course, there's always the "OOPS!" factor...haha!)
