Dumbest thing someone has said to you about your Leaf?

I have also received the "you mean there's no gas?" response.

however the favorite comment I've gotten so far is "can it go on the freeway, I thought it was like a golf cart."

Another was in jest "you must have a long extension cord."
I responded that I bought the hamsters from the Kia Soul and have them generating electricity in the back of the car.

I live in Silicon Valley but I'm not an engineer, unlike almost everyone I've talked to about the car. They immediately start telling me about dipoles and inverters and phases and kilowatt hours. They ask smart questions and I give dumb answers. I'm still not sure what the radiator + coolant cools. A/C, obviously, and I think I've read on the forum that it cools the charger when charging and the the cable from charger to motor. Does it cool the motor when running? I think I've read that Tesla puts down the Leaf because it does NOT cool the battery and so cannot get the range of the Tesla, but I may have that wrong.

It also cools the motor and the controller (that big silver box under the hood that looks like a 4 banger valve cover) that powers the motor. And, no, unlike the Telsa and Volt, the battery is not actively cooled...

The range of the Tesla is mostly to do with the battery capacity, which is much more than twice that of the LEAF, and the weight of the car, which is less than the LEAF. It has little to do with the cooling system.

I once found a guy holding a lecture to his kids in front on my car. He was explaining to them that the LEAF was Socialism... the Government was giving these cars away... but nobody wanted them. I politely listened to him until he was done. When he suddenly realized it was actually MY car, his wife grabbed the poor kids and they quickly pushed them down the sidewalk. I just got in and drove off but it was very crazy and sad.

If you define socialism as politicians taking money away from some folks and giving it to others, the USA is full of socialism. Everyone seems to get a benefit for something: farm subsidies, milk subsidies, oil and ethanol subsidies, solar panel rebates and tax credits and EV tax credits and benefits, earned income credits, deductions for children and the list goes on....

So it appears this guy was upset because here he had an example of someone getting a tax benefit that he wasn't getting. The next time you run into a guy like that you can tell him that he received a deduction for his children and your taxes paid for them. Why are you stuck paying for his choices? (ha ha, I have both children and a Leaf!)

If people don't like these facts, then vote to get rid of ALL subsidies and tax credits and let all these products (yes, including the Leaf) stand on their own. Until then, it is ridiculous to argue about any individual credit or deduction.

If you want to say the free market won't allow for EV's right now because they are too expensive without the credits and perks, then I would say it would be a matter of time anyway as oil will go up in price and the economic crossover point will be breached soon enough.

On another website, I got comments about how they were paying for a portion of my Leaf (considering the Fed and CA credits). I told them I had paid in a lot more in income taxes than I ever got back. It was really my money coming back to me.
