Extreme fix for climate control?

A bit less extreme I've wondered why a small alcohol heater wouldn't be a good solution. Not like it's needed all that often most places.

Too bad we don't have a gasoline tank. Remember the South Wind heater?

Worked great in a '38 Ford. Seemed perfectly OK then, but now I shudder to think of gasoline being piped into the cabin and then set afire.

BTDT. Army yanked those janitrols out years ago, also vehicle heaters as well. Too many fires and Carbon Monoxide deaths. Army had an OV1 accident about 25 years ago where the CO count in the PIC's and Observer's blood was beyond fatal. They were long gone before they hit the mountain. Folks just don't seem to "get it" about how dangerous combustion products are in a closed space. Nobody should ever drive a car without a window partially open, even if it is one inch. Unless it's a Leaf, of course ;)

A feature I've found quite useful on a couple of occasions when caught short on sleep at work. Just trip on out to the LEAF, turn on climate control, heated seat, a little music, and have a very comfortable snooze during lunch! No fumes, no breathing exhaust, no rumble, no worries

There is actually a safe and efficient way to stay a lot warmer. An electric vest, used by motocyclists, plugs into an accessory outlet and keeps core of body warm. Amazingly effective.
Here is an example:

I've just got back from the Arctic, where Volvo was showing off its winter weather C30 electric performance. This is how Volvo does it.

No thank you. I would never have an 'electric' car that has to use fossil fuels for any purpose.

Maybe you wouldn't. But maybe people that live in cold climes where the choice is a fully gas vehicle that is actually comfortable to drive in or this type of arrangement would feel differently.
