I believe that longer range vehicles are just around the corner:

If this happens in the new future, it would be reasonable to see if we can get some of the larger motel chains to start getting involved in EVs and plan for future charging stations at their motels. If a major chain would install charging stations that could charge somewhere around 100 kWh overnight for a fee, then the next generation of EVs would be able to go coast to coast rather easily. I for one would not mind limiting my travels to somewhere around 350 to 400 miles in a day. Being on a vacation, I would find some sites along the way that would make a full day of travel and then stay and recharge overnight. The only thing I am missing is addresses to be able to get this message to the top brass to encourage them to keep an eye on EV progress.

That sounds like a very practical direction to go, better in my mind than trying to depend on frequent stops for DC fast charging. But I guess it's obvious that these cars would need at least 12kW chargers.

The fee for 100kW would probably add at least $20 to your motel bill, but that's a lot better than, say, six Quick Charges at up to $10 each, and it doesn't seem to hurt so much when you add it to a $100 or more lodging bill. Then there's also the argument that you just avoided paying for 10 gallons of gas.

The Meritage Resort in Napa has a Level 2 charging station for guests.

I stayed in Patterson CA at the Best Western this past Tuesday and they have 5 working level 2 chargers. Didn't have my leaf but was surprised to find them. I took a picture but not sure how to post it.

The strong probability of much better EV technology in 2015 is why I leased 2012 LEAF Roper for 3 years instead of buying it.

All LEAF drivers should e-mail hotel chains urging them to install level-2 chargers or, at least, have several 120-volts outlets available for charging EVs.

Chattanooga is a paradigm for inside the city L2 charging. Almost every hotel and motel I looked at before staying at the Doubletree has at least one L2 station. There might be some QC in town but I never saw any on my phone ap. The trip from Nashville to Chattanooga is very dooable if the various QC's along the way fron Nashville to Chattanooga are working (which they were not when I originally planned our trip).

I stayed at a Jameson Inn and Suites over the weekend and they let me charge on an outdoor 120v outlet both nights. http://www.jamesoninns.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I called 3 hotels and they said no problem so I took my business to them.

I plan on emailing the company with my thanks. I travelled 140 miles away so 280 miles round trip.

The Marriott Springhill Suites in Grand Junction has a Chargepoint station. Don't know why since there aren't any EVs in the area so far as I am aware. When I called the hotel I was told it was for guests only, although the person I spoke with admitted she didn't know much about it. It is the only charge station within ~150 miles, save for the one in my garage about 90 miles and 3000+ vertical feet away.
