Hey all,

Just got a used returned lease 2012 SV with 32,000 miles and 10 bars for $7,600. Pretty excited about it but I definitely have some questions:

First off, is ten bars for that price good? I'm aware that battery degradation is a real problem on really warm leafs (this leaf came from Irving, TX where the average high in summer is 96 degrees), but I'm thinking 10 bars is pretty solid.

Second, if that is going to be a problem then how likely is it that I'll be able to qualify for the warranty? I'd need to lose two bars in 28,000 miles and I really have no idea how reasonable that is.

Third, is there any way I can see my leftover battery in a percentage instead of miles on the 2012? Is that part of a software update that my leaf doesn't have? Also, I know that Nissan has released some software updates since 2012- if I do need any of those are they going to be free?

Thanks for the answers people, really excited about owning one of these!

Seems like a decent price.

Can you update your location info via your user name in the upper right > User Control Panel > Profile tab? That way, we don't need to ask in future posts/threads or do sleuthing to deduce it.

What are your daily driving needs in terms of miles? How much city vs. highway? Will you have the ability to charge at your work/destinations?

We have no idea about your until you provide your location.

Are you talking about having some sort of % state of charge indicator instead of the useless guess-o-meter (GOM)? If so, you can use Leaf Spy (http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=14285). Start with the lite version at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=14284 to make sure your setup is working first, before paying for either of the 2 other versions.

Sorry about that- taken care of! Hopefully that should provide enough information to deduce whether the battery warranty would be possible.

The purpose of the car is to run errands and go to work. Work has a charger and is less than 10 miles away. Errands tend to be a bit further (my preference of grocery stores makes me drive further) so I'd guess that the max range for errands is about 10-15 miles.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. I know that the 2013 Leaf can display the left over charge in percent on the dash instead of miles. I was just wondering if there was any way to do that with the 2012 naively without the use of an OBD reader.

Thanks! Hmmm... it's a maybe. Sacramento does get quite hot.

What's the build month (on sticker on the driver's side)? Also, do you know the original in service date? That'd be the day the warranty began. Also, hopefully the previous driver didn't opt out (http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=17045).

For your needs, the Leaf should be ok for quite awhile, even w/a severely degraded battery.

No. Nissan never made that functionality available to those with pre-'13 Leafs.

If you do get Leaf Spy and it is only $15 so you should, look at the explanation on the play store for advice on adapters. I got the Konnwei which turbo3 recommends and it worked on my 15.

Unfortunate that all these hot weather state cars are 'washing up' in California. Heat is not good for batteries. It is somewhat mitigated by the very low price you paid. Please take it in to a Nissan dealer which offers free inspection to find out if all the air bags are there. Who knows what they do to cars in GA, TX, AZ and elsewhere before they get here? I don't mean to be a downer, but it is the safety of you and those you care for which counts. Best wishes.
