Maybe others have seen this already but I haven't seen anyone mention this yet. The LEAF website from Great Britain is amazing. You can take a virtual tour of the LEAF - especially good for some of us that have yet to see an actual LEAF. The sexy tour guide is fun too - talks about "taking you to the next level". As you go around and inside the LEAF and click on icons for information, a site map marks topics as "Completed". As you complete a number of topics you are "rewarded" with wallpaper, a ringtone, and finally a "LEAF Pack" of more wallpaper and 4 more ringtones.

With still a two month wait for my test drive, this was the next best thing.

Here's the URL:

Be sure the let the tour guide take you to the "next level"!!!

Here are some descriptions of features on the British website of features on the LEAF. I have not heard of some of these. Plus, I like the way they describe things, like "privacy glass".

Exterior:
Privacy glass from 2nd row
LED Rear lamps (I know there has been some question about whether these are LED or not.)
Electric folding outside mirrors

Interior:
Full Auto A/C with pollen filter
Automatic headlights with “Follow me home”
Automatic wipers with rain sensor

You're right. The exterior and interior specs you mentioned above have not been specified by Nissan on the US website. However, I wonder if the UK website is accurate? For example, there isn't privacy glass on the Leaf test drive vehicles on any of the windows, including the rear window. I would also be surprised if the production Leaf has electric folding outside mirrors.

Some of these may be EU specific. What is “Follow me home” anyway ?

“Follow me home” is when yout turn off the car and pull up the lights means that even with the locked car you have at least 30 seconds to reach your home door with the lights of the car on. If you pull the lights twice you will get 1 minute, etc, until you reach the 2 minutes time with the lights on before they turn off.

As I'm not a native english speaker but I have a car with that option (Renault Megane) I hope it was clear enough. And yeah, I'm waiting my own LEAF between February and April 2011.

Regards

Got it. So, the lights stay on for sometime even after you lock the car - so that you will have the light needed to reach the front door of the house.

I guess not that big a deal here for the people who park in garages.

In the USA, passenger vehicles (i.e., cars, not trucks) must have at least 70% VLT for all windows. Thus, no factory-installed privacy glass is available. You may install window tint according to individual state regulations after purchase.

Many US cars have factory dark tinted rear seat and back window glass. Sometimes privacy glass is an option and sometimes it is included in an accessory package.

The SL already comes with 'auto' on and off headlights so you don't have to touch any switches, and I'm hoping I can turn off the 'rain sensor' for the wipers because I rarely use my wipers since I have my glass coated with something like Rain-X, but my stuff (Dry Wash 'n Guard) lasts a lot longer.

Actually, I've never noticed any discussion or questions about the rear lights being LEDs (lots of cars have these), just the low and high beam headlights. And we now know that the low beams have LEDs, but the high beams don't.

Darn it! The ringtones aren't the startup tones from the car.

I so wanted to practice getting excited each time I hear those tones. What a perfect ringtone.

Yes, the Leaf does have electric folding outside mirrors. But then, most cars do. By electric, they mean you can adjust them electrically - the fold by pushing them.

I hope the Leaf will have UV blocking windows, but I'm not betting on it. If they don't, one of my first stops after getting the car will be a tinting shop

I want IR blocking not so much UV. UV is for sun tanning and fading cloth but IR is Heat which I want blocked.

My window tinter has a film that will block heat and dark.

I am pretty sure that you cannot order factory-installed privacy glass in passenger cars sold in the US, even as an option. It has been this way for a long time. A dealer could install it as an accessory.

http://articles.sfgate.com/1999-08-30/news/17697024_1_tinted-windows-visibility

National standards require cars, which are built to carry passengers, to have windows with 70 percent visibility -- essentially meaning colorless or clear windows that make it easy for drivers to see out and for drivers in other cars to see in.

But trucks, which are classified as cargo or multipurpose vehicles, have to have only 70 percent visibility through the windshield and the driver's and front passenger's side windows. Other side and back windows can be tinted or even completely dark. In fact, they do not have to have windows at all.

Minivans and sport utility vehicles are classified as trucks, so they are allowed to have dark windows. And the exploding popularity of these large SUVs as family vehicles means there are more big, bulky cars that spend their time commuting on city streets and busy highways instead of exploring the backcountry or roaming the range as their name suggests.

I have it factory on my truck, you cant really see in the back window unless you put your hands on the glass. Not sure how "privacy" is defined.

OK, I understand about the mirrors. I was thinking that that you meant that the mirrors could be folded electrically (like some luxury segment cars).

Gonewild, can you give me the name of the tinter you're going to use up there in Chandler? Maybe they have a branch in Tucson. I'm going to go to the Specialists this week to check out the tints they have. No one in Tucson has V-Kool tint film.

Thanks.

Ringtone #5 is based on the startup jingle. :) Driven the car twice now and thats pretty much it.
