With recent nanotechnology improvements driving significant Li-Ion battery improvements, we expect to see a 5 times improvement in range (up to 500 miles) using a battery pack of the same size, cost, and weight within the next three to five years.

I'm glad somebody does

Nice ... too bad though that they didn't choose an SL with QC. ( And I would think the driver would benfit from a backup camera too ... )

Lol, I guess it was inevitable. It's just about big enough to where the "cover it with solar panels" idea might have some merit

A "QC" port for a car that travels 5 miles before returning?

I do like the limo idea. Manufacturers need to get SUV, minivan or even a cute-ute EV out there. And, yes, I know about the RAV4 (Tesla) compliance EV.

He may do multiple trips in a day (not getting 5 m/kWh in THAT limo) ... and if he ever takes a group for a longer ride ... he's then suddenly "stuck" on L2 at 3.3kW.

Yeah. I noticed that too. No QC port. Unclear if it was an SV or '11 SL w/o QC.

:? But, if he had L3, the group would be fine with a longer ride with a max speed of around 35MPH? Nope, its' a city limo, just as the Leaf is a city vehicle. Limitations are limitations. Equipping a Leaf with L3 doesn't remove a limitation, it's just a Band-Aide.

I guess we are talking "past each other" ... by "longer ride" I mean more than the 5 miles (they used and you re-used). Perhaps 30-50 miles. Once having done that, as a driver, I would want the option to re-charge again QUICKLY so that I don't end up losing the next customer due to the L2 wait time. Sure, it's not a 200-400 mile a day Taxi service (although -- think about it -- with QC it could be ! ... except that would be bad for the battery), it's definitely for shorter distances. And yet, if I was in charge, and approved the expenditures to convert a LEAF ( I am sure it was NOT cheap ... looks like a quality job ), then I would have also opted for the QC (and backup camera if not yet so equipped) version. If a QC station is not available nearby now (too expensive to add to the LEAF limo conversion budget), at least I would not limit myself to 3.3kW-only in the future when one does pop-up.

Figure with the conversion the range cut to 50 miles max you could do safely. Now let's say the limo driver has to go 10 miles to pick up the customers, you're left with 15 miles max you could take them and reverse to get them back home. Pretty limiting.
Should be good to flatbed it around for things like Oscar night.

I just saw a Nissan LEAF limo driving around downtown Walnut Creek, CA this evening. It had decals for the Marriott and Starbucks and it made laps of downtown. I couldn't get a good shot of it with my phone, but it looked exactly like this:

It's too bad that they did not add a second battery pack though :)
