What's the average insurance price for a leaf?

The Nissan leaf has been known to insure at a very affordable price. I really can't answer that question because insurance quotes vary from age, state, city, driving history, deductibles, and the insured.
We do work with a lot of local insurance agents in the nearby area.

OK, so basically AV's standalone version of what Phil has been doing via modification... His can do 20 amps on 240 through so it would be a little faster than their 16...

Just a FYI, but there aren't ANY EVSEs that I am aware of that void the Nissan warranty... AV is simply the company that Nissan made a financial deal with but there is a plethora of other EVSEs out there, some of them better and cheaper than the AV unit... If I wasn't being given a Dual Turbo Cord for free, I'd go with Phil's mod...

A more proper distinction between the two would be that the Turbo Cord is UL listed. Phil's EVSE mod would surely void the warranty of your L1 EVSE that came with the car, but not the car's warranty.

Yes, obviously Phil's mod voids the warranty of the host Panasonic EVSE that came with the car... UL listing has nothing to do with warranties one way or the other, however...

Unfortunately there is always a wild card in the mix when it comes to modifying anything factory to aftermarket. Even using a device that is not approved by Nissan. It doesn't necessarily mean that the units don't work or will cause issues with your EV. It just means that if you call Nissan's tech support and ask about modifying anything you are bound to get the same answer.

We personally like to play it safe. our reputation is far too important to us. We prefer to spend the extra money for our clients and provide them with a device that Nissan USA feels 100% about.

Wow, I better get rid of my 3.5 year old J1772 home charger right now because it is neither an AV, nor is it specifically approved by Nissan.

Any EVSE that meets the J1772 spec is, by definition, meeting the Nissan spec since that is what they themselves must subscribe to... (And there have been a couple of firmware upgrades over the years from Nissan when they failed to meet those specs and had compatibility problems...)

And then, of course, there is also the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act...

If you recall the GE Wattstation issue- some Nissan LEAFs plugged into GE Wattstations were damaged. Nissan tried to suggest that it was GE's fault for not having a 100% J1772 complaint charging station. But GE eventually disclosed that it was Nissan's own OBC software that caused it to self-destruct when encountering brownouts while connected to certain charging stations, including the Wattstation. Not being J1772 complaint was not the cause of the damage; faulty programming from Nissan was the cause, and Nissan had to honor the warranty per Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act because they were unable to demonstrate that the Wattstation caused the damage.

Using a non-Aerovironment charging station will not void your warranty, so long as that charging station does not cause damage. If the charging station causes damage, the warranty on the affected parts is void, whether you are using an Aerovironment product or not.
