Maybe this is a dumb question. But it's very important to know the answer.

Is AT&T's 3G coverage different than it's previous 2G coverage?

It would be a shame to pay for the TCU upgraded to 3G and then live in a 4G only area.

The obvious answer is "yes", but it depends what you mean by "different". Only AT&T knows how they engineer their 3G/4G coverage in a given area, but the fact is 2G is gone...so what difference does it make?

Upgraded my Telematics unit.

Waited 48 hours. Still didn't work.

Called Nissan.

Leaf servers have been down all day, unknown when will be back up. Maybe tomorrow?

Why, again, did I spend $200 for this aggravation? Serious case of buyer's remorse here.

Report: I went to my local dealer today with an appointment to upgrade. I was told they "had the part" and needed it delivered and it would be here "probably" in about a week. $199 is what they quoted me. I called nissan corporate to confirm prior to appointment.

Currently waiting for a call. I will call them in a week.

History: I recently bought a used nissan leaf 2012 SL. LOVE IT! 9 bars (lost one shortly after purchase) SOH via leafspy is 70. Nissan corporate was a good phone experience. I was happy enough with carwings the month it was working. I do not like dealers, i am trying to give these guys a chance. I have no other choice that i am aware.... One of their techs marked a deep pen mark about an inch long in my light colored steering wheel... sigh. Its great being human i suppose.

youtube channel of mine: trytohelpyou . I have a review of my leaf if you would like to see it. I will also post a video of my telematics upgrade when i am complete with it.

Well it would make a difference in whether I'm willing to shell out $200 or not for the TCU upgrade.

Here in the mountains cell reception isn't always the greatest. And I'd hate to get the upgrade and then not be able to use it.

Yep NissanConnectEV isn't working for me either, seen the same thing on Facebook. Hopefully it's just a short outage and they are updating all their ancient infrastructure so it won't be so painfully slow anymore!

IssacZachary, you should check out coverage in your area. I know that there is a big difference between GSM and CDMA in Colorado, CDMA works in the cities and nowhere else, GSM works in the mountains and works ok in the cities. I'm not sure which the TCU uses.

Hi all,

Adding my experience in case someone's keeping tally of what works or not.

I had my TCU updated on Wed on a 2013 SV. Before I left to pick it up, I tried the online (PC) page to see if it was updating - not. I picked up the car and couldn't connect from the car, either. When I got home, I noticed the antenna was sitting next to me in the mid console. I reinstalled it but that did not make any difference immediately. Perhaps a new antenna is needed for the new 3G frequencies? Or maybe they connect something to the antenna port to test the radio, don't know. My TCU screen showed, as many of you has posted here, the phone number as ****.

I tried to refresh from both the app and web every couple of hours since Wednesday - I don't think refreshing app or page has any effect in the outcome of successful connection or not as some have guessed. Just this Friday morning I got in the car and noticed it said "updating stations" which had not happened since the update. It all works now and I can see both the web page and phone app with the correct figures. It looks a little faster than before but I'm guessing that's because Nissan managed to knock the majority out of the system so it runs faster now.

After all the issues reported here, I was thinking that maybe one of those 2G home "towers" they sell that connect to the Internet might have solved the problem - at least while you're at home. For the more adventurous and impractical among us, one could install one of those personal towers and use a router and mobile phone tethering for an in-car DIY solution. I believe there are repeaters that make all of this happen as well. Possible, yes. Practical, no.

Regards,
JR

PS: this might suit those that don't want/can't upgrade their 2G TCU: https://hologram.io/l/2g-network-sims-and-devices/?gclid=CPCgw5_40NECFdRahgodvuIBew. No affiliation or endorsement, just a google search result.

2013 SL owner. It has now been 3 weeks since my TCU was replaced. 2 weeks since it was replaced a 2nd time. No connection, no response. Dealer has directed me to Nissan Consumer Affairs. Call 877.664.2738 Option 6 to have the issue reported for your vehicle. General consumer affairs is aware of the issue and working with the vendor for resolution. No ETA. Maddening.

Wow..
I was down for a week, and no remorse here..
Mostly because I read this thread and expected it I suppose.. ;-)

It's a bit of a clunky process, but they will get it working..
I think there are 2 issues:
1: Dealers still aren't fond of EVs, and that trickles to the service department.
2: If your dealer has a Leaf Specialist, I'm not sure how "trained" they actually are...

With mine, it sounds like the tech just didn't follow all the install instructions from Nissan...
I suppose it's also related to the fact that since there are fewer problems with EVs, the technicians don't spend much time on them.. (Compared to the number of ICE vehicles they work on.. More in quantity and more problems..)

We almost never have any issues with the Macintoshes here in the office. But when we do, no one knows how to troubleshoot them. ;-)
Usually falls to the Linux guys, who hope it's something they will recognize.. ;-)

Nissan Support stated that the Carwings service is down. Nissan is trying to get it back up and running with no eta reported.

They said that, eh? I just refreshed my stats:

I finally (just now) got ours to refresh on our Android phone app and the Carwings tab in the NissanConnect EV webpage. I guess it pays to just finally give up and not think about it for a couple of days....

Tested remote climate control this morning. It took less than 15 seconds to start and less than 5 seconds to stop. Very nice! However, the estimated driving range within both the Android app and the CARWINGS website is showing about half of what the car miles show. Is anyone else seeing lower estimated driving ranges than what the car is showing?

No mileage discrepancy - similar to your description - but minor anomalies every now and then. All in all, I think glitches are being ironed out with time.

I'm another "fuse pull/reinstall" success story. I haven't been able to connect to my 2015 Leaf remotely for almost month, since I had my TCU replaced on Dec 27th. The dealer was no help, and the EVConnect tech support was no help either (though the L1 tech on my case gets points for effort).

I decided to pull and replace the "audio" fuse tonight, and everything now works!

For anyone else that tries this, make sure you keep the fuse out for a little while. The first time I tried, I still saw all astericks on my carwings info page after reinstalling the fuse. The second time, I left the fuse out for a minute or so. After reinstalling the second time, voila! It works!

This is the first I've heard of this solution. Prior to pulling the fuse, were you able to connect from the car at all? I can connect from the car, but not from the web or the app (which defeats 90% of the purpose of owning this).
