There is one under construction in Santa Ysabel that will be online in approximately 2 weeks, and there are several others that are heading towards the design/permit/installation phase. In a few months, there will be plenty of opportunities to get a DC Fast Charge in San Diego.

By the way, it's a semantics issue, but there is no such thing as an "L3" or "Level 3" charging station, according to the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). The "DC L3" definitions are still under development. The current DC Fast Charge stations are referred to in the SAE Standards documentation as "DC Level 2" stations, but many people still use the term "DC Fast Charge"....

Relevant Quote:
The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has recently redefined the levels designation for electric vehicle charging equipment, and the electric vehicle industry terminology is changing based on these new definitions. What was previously considered level 1, 2 or 3, is now defined as AC Level 1, AC Level 2, AC Level 3, DC Level 1, DC Level 2, and DC Level 3. In accordance with the SAE definitions, AC Level 3 and DC Level 3 are currently not in use and the limits for these levels are under development. What once was known as the level 3 DC quick charger is now known as a DC Level 2 charger.

Nice looking install, but man, those stations sure are huge. They should have installed the short L2 stations and eventually one has to think they'll try to slim down the QC station.

The QC station doesn't appear to be operational - what's the ETA? How many L2 stations are there?

Nor is it on the Blinknetwork map yet. But it really does look like the southern part of Southern California is just about to get its first QC station! So I suggest a few links. The very helpful videos were posted on this forum but are not necessarily easy to find.

Not operational. Probably Nov 1- ish. Three L2's; one is handicap access.

Not to mention Dudley's Bread right next door! http://www.dudleysbakery.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . . . and the Apple County Restaurant. http://www.wearejulian.com/business/apple-country-restaurant-the/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We could even have our San Diego County monthly LEAF meetups in Santa Ysabel! I don't recall if the Apple County Restaurant has a banquet room or not, but otherwise we could bring a few easy-ups for shade if it's hot and everyone bring their own folding chair. Arrive early to have breakfast and rotate the EV's through the EVSE's. Have our meeting and then afterwards go for a hike in one of the two new nature preserves: http://www.co.san-diego.ca.us/parks/openspace/Santa_Ysabel.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or make a trip to Julian to check out the mine tours.

If you're a gambler or want to stay for dinner, the Santa Ysabel Casino is just down the road a piece (I hear it has/had a pretty decent buffet): http://www.santaysabelcasino.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Before you head home be sure to grab some bread at Dudley's, some of the famous homemade sausage at Don's Market, and grab a few pies at the Julian Pie Company!

If the Julian and/or Wynola EVSE's ever come on line you could easily do a whole weekend up in our local mountains. Sounds awesome!

We can split those EVSE's for six charging stations, plus one DC charger (like we did in Phoenix Sept 15).

Seven total chargers. I'm in. Pick a date.

I'm down - how many splitters do you have, Tony?

I only have one, so we'd need two more. Certainly, any of you big spenders driving a 3.3kW charger car in a 6.6kW EVSE world should have one !!! About $250, or build your own for much cheaper!!!

Here's a link to the next San Diego meet, Nov 17, Saturday, at Santa Ysabel.

There are two new publicly available L2 Blink's at 12544 High Bluff Drive, San Diego (an area most folks think of as Del Mar, just off Del Mar Heights). Blink says there are three units, but I can only see two; perhaps the other is in the underground, restricted access parking. Of particular interest to me, these are just down the street from where I work.

As luck/fate/whatever would have it, last night we failed to plug in our LEAF. Had enough juice to get to work, and maybe back home, but thought I'd try out the commercial-for-a-fee charging process. Swiped my card, was good to go at $1/hr. Plugged in, saw it was charging, walked away.

Got an email a while later that my charging session ended--at 8 of 12 bars. Hrm? Apparently, it stopped at 3 hours, perhaps in an attempt to save me money? That was more than enough in any case, so I unplugged and moved my car.

Is that normal behavior for these fee-based Blinks? I didn't see, when I started, any way to specify "fill 'er up" or what, and a quick search of the site didn't show me any obvious answers.

I meant to take pictures, but forgot; will make another go at that later today.

No, definitely not normal behavior. In fact, it's quite the opposite: Blink will gladly charge you for days of charging if you allow them to do so: http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=10170&hilit=calling" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My guess: some curious (and ignorant) person saw someone charging in their parking lot for the first time ever, and touched the Blink unit or J1772 and inadvertently stopped the charge. Exact thing happened to me at Del Mar, near the beach, while I was watching!.. They meant no harm, but really were too dumb to realize that they shouldn't do around touching car chargers without knowing how to use them.

As I was walking up toward my car, there was a guy who seemed to be hovering over my car; but my view was partially obscured, so I wasn't sure. As I got closer, I could see he was on his phone, smoking a cig, and pacing back and forth in a green area, behind the area between the two EVSE's. Maybe he did fiddle with it. If so, I reckon I should thank him!

Thanks for the link to that post. Amazing and terrible.

Del Mar Lifeguard Station, 1690 Coast Blvd

In the same parking lot as the Poseidon restaurant on Coast Blvd, there is 1 Blink charging station located right by the Del Mar lifeguard station. There is a reserved spot for EVs and a handicapped spot just to the left, and a parking meter that also must be fed at the standard City of Del Mar rates. I parked for photos early in the morning, and 2 people came up and started asking questions about the car. A lot of awareness already in place in the community....

Del Mar, 12544 High Bluff Drive

Alongside Interstate 5 at the Del Mar Heights exit, there are two Blink charging stations at the One Del Mar building at 12544 High Bluff Drive. They have two reserved spaces right next to the left side of the building (fed by the electric room), and some picnic tables nearby where you can catch up on business while grabbing a charge...Standard Blink rates apply...

Santa Ysabel's level 2's are open for business . . . and we beat Randy with a pic! :)

Did a "dry run" today. With any luck the DC quick charge will be up and operational on Wednesday. Stand by for further. :)
