Randy,

I've been itching for the La Mesa Springs install since January (it's close to my house) and the Bloomingdales site is literally a few hundred feet from my work (Apple) and a total surprise to me. I find it ironic that they both opened the same week that I went in for surgery and can't drive for three months. I think I might have pissed off the EV Gods?

Any other magical sites coming up that we should know about? Maybe in the next three months?

Nice sign. This is the way to do it. Space is available to everyone, yet reserved for ADA use when possible. Hope this finds a wider use.

Harrah's Rincon Casino & Resort 777 Harrah's Rincon Way (Valley Center) needs to be removed from the list. This appeared briefly on the Blink map but never went live. It has since been removed from the Blink map and I don't think there are any charging stations there. I was there a couple of weeks ago and did not see any.

Also, as stated a few posts above, the Walmart units in Vista are up and running. They have better parking spots than the handicap parking.

Here is a list of all the public charging stations I know about that are currently functional or showing on maps...
The Blink map shows two stations in Encinitas at the corner of Vulcan and E St. that I don't see on your list, Randy. Are they actually there? Has anyone used them?

I recently used the Blink charger in Encinitas. There is now signage indicating that parking in the charging spaces is for EV's only. The signs are new. Previous to the signage the spots were ICE,d regularly.

There's been signage there since at least July 8. Pic from earlier.

Sharp Mary Birch Hospital, 3003 Health Center Drive, San Diego

I took a drive over to Sharp Hospital in Kearny Mesa to check out the new Blink charging stations that have recently been installed. First stop is the parking structure at the Mary Birch hospital. They have a total of 4 charging stations, 3 on the roof level and 1 unit at a handicapped spot on the ground level. The first 60 minutes of parking is free in the structure, and then normal rates apply, although you can get a validation inside if you're visiting someone there. It used to be $3.00 flat after the validation, but that's been a year or two ago.

The units on the top level are very close to the world famous Sharp Stork, which is lit up at night, so you can't miss it. I was born at Sharp many years ago when they had the brick building with the outside windows for viewing in the nursery. Things have changed a bit over the years, that's for sure. And now, you can drive your EV to Mary Birch and get a charge while you're there...

The spaces on top have the typical "EV" signage, while the handicapped space below has no specific EV signage...

Sharp Memorial Main Parking Structure, 7901 Frost St., San Diego

Just a little further up the road from Mary Birch to the northeast is the main Sharp Memorial hospital parking structure. They have 3 units installed here, and they are also all the way up on the top level. The left-hand unit can reach a handicapped parking place as well as the first spot just to the right of that (where I am parked), and the right-hand EVSE can reach another space to the right as well. Same comments apply about parking fees at the structure. Signage is the typical "EV" signs, and someone was already there getting a charge this morning when I rolled up! Thanks to Sharp for allocating the funds to install these EV charging stations at their properties.

I wonder what makes some free and some charged. I think the ones at Balboa Park remain free.

The Fleet Science Center have a massive solar array on the roof so it's not costing them anything to run. Balboa Park is operated by City of San Diego so maybe they decided not to charge or it may be a condition of the Federal grant that cities can't charge. There is also some legal restriction (charter? land use agreement?) that forbids charging for parking in the park. That might play into it since it would be a grey area. I believe that you cannot resell electricity from a utility so the workaround for public charging has been that they are charging for parking.

My understanding is that a small number of Blink units in town will remain free due to the host sites covering the cost. The cost info will ultimately be shown on the Blink map.

In addition, my understanding is that the city charging sites will not be free long-term; the details just need to be worked out.

Hi There,
We wanted to give an update: 7 of the 10 Balboa Park units are now charging fees and our locator map has been updated. The other 3 units are "Fleet Only" locations that are not accessible to the public. Let us know if you have questions.

Correction and edit: These 10 units are public and are fee-based. The map will be updated shortly to reflect this.

"Fleet" only?  Those three units are public (I was at the big Blink press conference with the mayor). They are located at the "Reuben H. Fleet Science Center"

I really don't know if I want to correct Blink here, but I hope locals understand what the last 3 "Fleet" locations actually are...
