Parking lot surfaces in the sun routinely get much hotter than air temperature. This excess heat radiates up to the underside of your car, where the battery is. On top of this, charging raises battery temperature, especially when the battery is nearly 100% charged.
If you charge to 100% on sunny days, expect to see pack temperatures 10-15 degrees higher than ambient.
