I think that driving a brand targeted at rednecks and woodchucks (Northern rednecks), but owned by Fiat, requires a fair amount of cognitive dissonance to begin with.

While I won't comment on the "cognitive dissonance," I would assume the report doesn't pit a 80K Ram pick up against and 80K MB SUV. Instead it pits an 80K Ram against and 30K MB that was designed so everyone could own a MB.

As a kid growing up, those that made it owned a MB, now days you have a 30K MB and they slap an AMG badge on it and their owner's think they have a supercar!

Interesting that Dodge trucks became the symbol of Haters, they used to be second or third fiddle to Ford or Chevy (the ONLY ones to debate about in high school) and now it is Dodge- probably the Cummins has a lot to do with that.

There is some chatter on the ev journalist sites, that the cap on evs qualifying to get the 7K fed incentive may rise from 200k to 600k cars, with any number above 200k starting when the legislation is enacted.

A boon for GM and Tesla, but could create some short term softness if the public becomes aware and waits for the credit availability.

Ok, now a 4th used Tesla has shown up at Nissan around me. 2 S, 1 X, and 1 3. I noticed as I was sipping up a little free chademo power. Prior to last December I had never seen even 1. I will see if I can find out what they traded the cars in for, but what gives..it feels weird how these are showing up in accumulating numbers now.

Anyone anywhere else in the country seeing the same.

I know here in Central PA a lot of the dealers are just buying used cars at auction to put on their lots. And the Tesla has a lot of fan boys with younger buyers who probably don't want a Leaf.

Isn't the rumor saying that besides the FED tax credit coming back at 7k - for an extra 400k vehicles or so - but that also a used EV tax credit is coming? Not sure how much or what the income limit will be.

Ok, found out for the S performance 100D and the X 90D they were bought by the dealer from individuals (they have big signs up saying they pay more than carmax), but they didn't buy a Nissan. Just the sale.

Covid impacts driving the cash ins was what they told me.

The Most and Least Liked Car Brands
Rankings based on Consumer Reports' owner satisfaction survey

The above is a big ouch for Nissan.
I gave up on CR a long time ago because the most reliable vehicles I own (or owned) were rated low and the least reliable ones were rated high. I was concerned I might have bad luck when CR rated the early LEAFs high, but I have found all of mine to be very reliable (with exception of battery deterioration on 2011, but Nissan provided a retroactive capacity warranty and called me to initiate replacement of the original battery when it was down to 8 bars).

FWIW, from their reliability ratings, in my experience and that of my parents' vehicles, we've found that CR's reliability ratings are mostly on the mark, including on which systems had issues.

Satisfaction however is totally separate. Model Y did great on CR's satisfaction survey yet it is AWFUL at https://web.archive.org/web/20201123161426/https://www.consumerreports.org/car-reliability-owner-satisfaction/who-makes-the-most-reliable-cars/. Model S and X are pretty bad in the reliability department too, w/the Model X for at least 3 or 4 years being an engineering disaster, w/the X landing in the 10 least reliable vehicles at least 3 or 4 years in a row, now replaced by the S.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eblPwXFb7TE was posted on Feb 6, 2021 by CNBC. I recently watched it. Oddly. at the end, they mentioned it was taped in Oct 2019.
Elon Musk is the most famous CEO of Tesla, but he's not the company's founder. Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning founded the company in 2003 and were the original executives. CNBC sat down with them to talk about the idea for Tesla Motors, the battery, Elon Musk and building its first car, the all-electric Roadster.

Molten metal and hydraulic fluid don't mix... who would have thought?

Chip shortages, rapid price changes, fires... rough few months. Lets just hope Elon's GF doesn't leave him.

It's more likely that Tesla is putting their bets on the Cybercab. The original plan was to use lease returns as taxi's once self driving was working but leasing has been so popular that Tesla doesn't have any way to store so many returns. They are trying to sell them as used cars to move then off the lots but it's probably simpler to allow buyouts instead.
