I actually look at it another way (in US $): a $25k car with a $10k battery. While R&D was significant, Nissan should be in better shape than their competitors recovering it since they have far more units (Leafs) sold. That's why it's not hard to imagine the price coming down over the next few years as they can probably take out $5k with the battery alone. However, the hope is that same battery will have a higher capacity for that price
