Public Charger Design and Construction Firms???

Sun Sep 19, 2010 10:59 am

I am very curious to know what design and construction firms are being used for the public charging stations? Especially in SoCal where I live. There are alot of threads about the vendor products (chargers) but this is only a small part of the Public Charging puzzle. Each public charging station will be somewhat unique and have to be approved by cities on an individual basis. Who is drawing up, coordinating and submitting these plans??? Who is bidding on the construction of these stations???

ECOtality issued a press release on 9/9 naming Bovis Lend Lease as the overseer of all DC Fast Charge Stations in all EV Project Markets, as well as the L2 stations in TN.

At the 9/12 Street Smart event in San Diego, ECO rep Bill Blindell told me that they will be starting the installation of the public charging network in February for the Southern California region...

OK, thanks. So ECO has hired Bovis as their PM and it sounds like it will all be design/build. Contractors will just bid on the projects as they come up. Sounds reasonable. Anyone know about AV? Or is AV not really going to be doing the public chargers?

Here are some guys who are proactively putting up chargers in private & public property.

Ecotality is just doing the EV Project funded by government. They aren't doing any bidding.

I did not know about CCI. That is very clever and totally reminds me of vending machines. I can think of a dozen or so local businesses that would jump at the chance to have these. It would be safe to say that the private sector also has a very strong interest ($$$) in EV infrastructure. Love it!
