Hello,
My 2011 Leaf started acting up with the wife driving. Master alarm lit up, "Visit dealer" in the multi info display, The park brake indicator is blinking as is the LED in the park brake switch. System is in Fail safe mode but she drove it back home OK.
SOoooooooo, I tore into it naturally and found water had run down the emergency release cable and rusted out the cable and stuck the actuator. GRRRRRRRR, this has to be a side effect of the 2 rear enders we got into. I suspect the body shop let water get in there when it was all torn down and waiting for parts (parked outside in the rain, it was feb).
Well, I went ahead and tore the actuator apart. The motor was rusted but repairable. Had problems getting the reduction gear and clutch apart but managed to do so. I cleaned it up greased everything and reassembled it. AND................. it worked while on the bench. :?
After reinstall the system is still in fail safe telling me to visit the dealer. I disconnected the 12V battery for 2 hours but it came back on as "visit dealer."
I need a new emergency release cable so I went online to check on buying one only to find out it only comes as part of the $709 actuator.
OUCH!!! that cable is the same as a speedo cable from yester-year with their proprietary spinner on one end. Me thinks I will attempt to make one using the old parts. Or I'll just run without it, it's not like it did any good in this situation anyway.
OK, so anybody know how to clear the PBK codes and thus the fail safe mode it's in???????
Thanks
Don T
