Being that I intend to be an actual customer and made a day 1 reservation and have an actual confirmation email here’s what they promised me when I gave them $1,000:

“Model 3 production is scheduled to begin in late 2017. North American deliveries will be first, followed by Europe, Asia and Pacific countries then countries with right-hand drive configurations. Those who own Model S or Model X cars will be offered priority production slots as a special thanks for supporting the Tesla mission.”

Elon’s unicorn farts aside, they’re exactly where they promised me they would be when I signed up. I’m looking forward to giving them another forty two grand or so in the near future.

If you are paying only the "more affordable"! $43,000, you still have quite a while to wait, don't you?

About 90 more days, yes, which is about what I was expecting. According to my Nissan dealer I’ll need to wait about 60 if I want the refreshed Leaf so po-tay-to, po-tah-to.

I have a ‘13 Leaf with a fresh battery to tide me over until then so it makes little difference to me.

I'm ordering a weird combination of features also, so I expect to wait a few extra months. No biggie. I want the long range battery, but no Premium Package. I wouldn't mind the better console that comes with the PUP, but they won't break out the options separately, and I really don't want the glass roof here in Florida. (Ordering my Model S 70D with the Panoramic Roof was my only mistake.) I want EAP (autopilot), but not full self-driving. If it takes a few months longer to get just the options I really want, so be it. I have 3 other cars.

That's a good review and touches on many of the things I've got concerns about. I'm torn about what I will do when I get my invitation to configure and order, as I'm no longer sure if I want one. (the lack of a heated steering wheel being a downside for me)

He hits on many of my own concerns, and I already figured that I wouldn't find the human factors control design acceptable, which is why I've pretty much given up on the Model Y. It may be possible to configure the steering wheel buttons in a way I'd find acceptable, but so much of the 'everything on the touchscreen' design just seems to be done "because we could," not because it did the job better. All-touchscreen will be okay once they've got L4 or L5 autonomy, but not until then. I'll have to see what Buick does with their small AWD BCUV.

First Confirmed Non-Employee Delivery Of The Tesla Model 3
https://insideevs.com/first-confirmed-customer-delivery-tesla-model-3/

Well, the first Tesla Model 3 non-employee delivery could have happened today, although the reservation holder requested December 26th instead.

We recently reported about Daniel Zorilla being the first non-employee that we knew of to receive a Model 3 configuration invite email. That was less than a month ago. He told us at the time that Tesla was estimating about four weeks until delivery. Dan is a non-employee Tesla owner that waited in line on March 31 in West Palm Beach, Florida.

It turns out the automaker was spot on.

Tesla contacted Dan yesterday, December 18, 2017 and provided him with the VIN # (144x) for his new car. Today, he received word that he could take delivery before Christmas. Sadly, it’s a busy time of year with the holidays, so he scheduled delivery for December 26, 2017. . .
.

With only 12 days left in 2017, Tesla might still achieve its guidance of 5,000 deliveries of the M3, e.g. finished product,
from a stealth Giga, could have been secretly stored at multiple locations for "last minute deliveries" in the U.S.,
to surprise shareholders and report a profit for 2017, right?

On the second day of Christmas, Tesla sold to me, 2 steering wheel knobs, on my brand new Model 3.
On the third day of Christmas, Tesla sold to me, 3 panel gaps, 2 steering wheen knobs, on my branch new Model 3.

Tesla developing battery preheating feature to lessen cold-weather drain
Owners will be able to restore range lost to bringing the battery up to optimal temp via mobile app.
https://www.autoblog.com/2017/12/19/tesla-battery-preheating-cold-weather/

. . . Tesla is working on a feature that will allow owners to preheat the vehicle battery from the mobile app while the car is still plugged in. Electrek reports the feature is part of the recently released 2017.50 vehicle software update and a forthcoming mobile app update.

Tesla already allows customers to pre-heat the cabin of their vehicles through its mobile app, as do automakers like BMW, through its i models, and Chevrolet with the Volt, and some others, all while the cars are plugged in. Tesla also has begun displaying the portion of driving range that is lost when the battery is cold, Electrek says. The new capability is expected to restore much of that lost efficiency — again, provided the vehicle is plugged in. . . .
Applies to all Teslas I imagine, but I'm too lazy to post it in all of the threads.

I got my VIN today (serial #2292), and the paperwork. The check is sitting on my desk.

The car should arrive in San Diego on Friday or Saturday (Dec 22-23, 2017).

Congrats!

It's a hoax, there are no real cars. Tesla paid you to say this. All Model S cars are holograms,

My first LEAF, 6.5 years ago, was serial 2244.
You're getting slower with age, but only a little! ;)

Merry Christmas! I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts on your new Model 3!

So based on that VIN and your actual receipt of a M3 before year-end, Tesla will
have delivered in excess of 2292 M3s for 2017, right? Then this should be reported
by Tesla in a few weeks during their year-end report.

I would not necessarily assume that. They don't appear to be delivering them in sequential order (for reasons only known to Tesla, but I suspect it's as simple as a customer specialist scanning down a spreadsheet looking for a vehicle that matches the color/wheels of the one they are looking for and arbitrarily picking one), but I am expecting something in the neighborhood of 2000 anyway.

So, most likely the M3 VINs may have been assigned relative to a deposit date and not a production date, which is atypical in the
automotive industry.
