Hello, New to the forum, new to electric cars.

I just purchased a GE Durastation (https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00VVFO39W/ezevchargers-20) It's a hardwired panel but I have a 14-50 wall outlet already in the garage. I'm wondering if I can use a standard 14-50 dryer cord to wire it up or am I going to need to make my own 14-50 wire and plug?

Also any wiring advice would be greatly appreciated. If not I can ask one of the electrical engineers at my work.

You can wire the EVSE to a 14-50 plug. Note that it uses two hot wires and a ground. Neutral is not used. The standard 14-50 dryer plug cord will have a neutral.

Which you can just either cut off as short as you can inside the EVSE and then tape the end or wire nut the end, again inside the EVSE. Don't just leave the bare neutral hanging inside the EVSE.

Thank you guys!

Any chance anyone has a picture of the inside of the panel that can explain what the manual means by this?

Do you have a 50 amp circuit or a 40 amp circuit?

NEC allows 50 amp outlet on either. However the EVSE needs to be derated with the jumper if you have a 40 amp circuit.

A jumper is a very low tech switch. When installed a jumper will tell the electronics to limit current to the car to 30 amps to comply with a 40 amp circuit.

You are only showing part of the page, but the manual is quite clear. You don't need to do anything with the jumper unless your supply circuit is less than 40 amps.

The installation guide is available here: http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfImages/db/dba9cee7-6f4a-4f66-829f-2343d78ef480.pdf
