Trip Report for Diagonal Across WA State – SE->NW

Wow! As someone else who lives in the Tri-Cities, I've never dreamed of taking the Leaf out of town (still very happy with the car, but we have a minivan for the out-of-town trips). Very impressive! (and patient to wait for the charging). Greg

ICEless in Seattle : Official Pacific NorthWest thread

Probably bad form to reply to an older message, but... This was no out of town trip - my in-laws were moving and staying there between houses. We were the first in the Tri-Cities (we're in Richland) to get one (and perhaps this half of the state?). Not sure how or why, but we were among the...

Gas Cars Emit More Black Carbon Than Previously Thought

They have something like this for diesels (DPF): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diesel_particulate_filter I've been amazed at how well they work (from a filtering point of view) and that they don't introduce too much back pressure into the system. I haven't heard of any attempts to add this to...

Gas Cars Emit More Black Carbon Than Previously Thought

Good question AndyH - I'm not sure - LII (the instrument I work on) measures soot concentration (mg/m^3 for example), and infers the soot primary particle size (soot is an aggregate composed of many smaller, primary particles). Most users (almost all) haven't been interested in the primary...

Gas Cars Emit More Black Carbon Than Previously Thought

If anyone has any questions about this - let me know. I collaborate with one of the authors - I wrote the software the runs the LII (Laser Induced Incandescence) instrument used to measure the concentrations. Even "clean" ICE cars produce soot (carbon), but it is a much lower concentration...

    Tire Pressure Monitor - Annoying?

We're looking into getting a set of snow tires on their own wheels for our Leaf - the question is whether to get a new set of TPMs (Tire Pressure Monitor) for the spare set. We can go without, but I am wondering if anyone knows how annoying the missing sensor (or low pressure) warning is (and...

Wet Okole Seat Cover Installation DIY

Rake - Thanks for the detailed instructions - put the covers on this weekend and the pictures and tips were a big help. For anyone else, the grabber from Home Depot was essential for me - no way I could get my hands under the front seats to pull the straps through. End result is great - even...

How happy are you with your Leaf?

Extremely happy after about 3 months and a little over 3000 miles. Biggest complaint is the nag startup screen, but that is small potatoes. Our other car (minivan) is barely putting on miles now - we use the LEAF for almost everything. I'd buy another, but the minivan is only three years old...

    Owners: Any regrets?

No regrets - very happy with the car. We use it for most of our driving and the minivan just for when we need to be two places at once. I don't have a problem with the warning sounds (the radio is usually on and I can't hear it inside the car) - I'd prefer nothing (at least for forward...

Has anyone purchased car seat covers for the LEAFs ?

It's definitely gray and black - I suspect it was washing out due to a) being an iPhone picture, and b) being in the sun (it was a fight with too much light from one side and not enough from the other). I took a closer look in the garage - the black is definitely black and the gray has a...

Has anyone purchased car seat covers for the LEAFs ?

Here's a side shot with the cover in place: From the trunk: Forgot to add that the loops that hold the back seat cover in place aren't visible with the trunk closed and the cargo cover in place (except around the middle seat belt). You can also see that the headrest covers aren't very tight...

Has anyone purchased car seat covers for the LEAFs ?

Finally got some time yesterday to install the back seat. Since I already have covers on the front seats, I didn't bother with those. Looking at the included front seat covers - they are nicer than the back seat since it is all in one piece and has some limited protection for the back of the...

San Diego KGTV 10 Leaf / Volt News Story

This seems to be a common news story - here's my me-too: http://www.kndo.com/Global/story.asp?S=14159321 The reporter came by for about a half-hour - all condensed down to a short couple of soundbites Family and friends keep asking how much I get paid for pushing the LEAF... Greg

ICEless in Seattle : Official Pacific NorthWest thread

I live on the other size of the state (Richland). We've had colder temps and have the heater running almost constantly. Through February, our average energy efficiency was 4 mi/kwh (according to CARWINGS). Much of this is commuting (10 miles one way, about 1 mile at 70 mph downhill, 6 miles...

Has anyone purchased car seat covers for the LEAFs ?

I've got these, but haven't had time to install them. They do look a little cheap out of the box, but I'm just looking for cheap seat protection until something nicer/permanent comes along. I'll try to get these installed soon with pictures. Greg

Dear Nissan: Please Help with missing “Charging Stopped”

I think if you dig through the settings there is a per-EVSE option to send an email with X minutes if you haven't plugged in. I think the options for X are 5, 15, and 30 minutes (going from memory - the boss has the car now). I've got this setup for home - very good reminder, although plugging...

    Vibration

I drove our Honda Odyssey yesterday - I used to think it was a nice smooth ride. I agree with the others - it's amazing how much vibration you feel through the gas pedal. I also was getting used to accelerating without the transmission shifting. There are so many positives to an EV it's hard...

    Seating surfaces already dirty!

Would seat covers from a Versa work in a LEAF? I realize they are different cars, but I would guess the seats would be about the same size and/or style. I bought generic covers for the front seats, but need to get something for the back (since that's where the kids are). Greg

    2011 Portland Auto Show

There was a LEAF at the Portland Marathon in October 2010 at the marathon expo (inside the Hilton downtown). Same situation - battery disconnected. You could climb around inside, but all the neat stuff wasn't accessible. Greg
