If you spend $400 for tire rotation, air filter change and brake fluid flush then you are getting robbed. But if you do agree to that price, I have some swamp land in south Florida that is prime real estate. :) Seriously, you can get the brake fluid changed at a lot of places for less than $100. You can do the filter and rotate your tire by yourself if you wanted. A lot of tire places will rotate for free so that they can get you back when you are ready to buy tires.

Been enjoying reading Phil's blog these past few days.

You're absolutely right. The maintenance cost is definitely much lower than that. WooHoo!
Stopped by the dealer to sign the cancellation paper work yesterday. No hassle.

Future leesee, hope you don't need to go through this in the 1st place like we did.

Here is my Deal...1/5/13

Shopped at 3 Dealers in Orlando Florida, I have not seen many Florida deals on the board to reference.

2012 Leaf SL
$1980 Due at Signing - $209 A month with Tax - 24 Months Lease.
Sutherlin Nissan Orlando - Johnathan Santos, great experience dealing with these guys they were upfront.

I think I did good overall, saw a few people pay less out of pocket at lease signing, but not in Florida - I guess states such as CA, CO, GA, WA have additional rebates to supplement. Also there was very low inventory of new leafs in central florida. Considered buying a used one, but with the battery life long term concerns - I think leasing is the best option for now.

Details Below

Gross Cap Cost: $36,200
Cap Cost Reduction: $10,127
Adjusted Cap Cost: $26,072
Residual: $21,048 (after 24 mos.)

Cash Due at Signing details ($1980)
First Payment $209
FL Fees $68.50
Tag, Transfer $382
Dealer Fee $689
Tax on Cap Cost Reduction $631

Do you have more details of this - like the residual & money factor ?

Money factor about .0005

If you talk to Michael tell him leafmatt sent you please.

i would rather borrow the money from the credit union than get in bed with a dealership, its finance magician, and all the crapola around maximum miles, return condition, etc.
i just never saw the sense to it.
with the LEAF and the battery/technology gains it might make cents($$), but i doubt it.
you get the convenience of walking away, if you can put up with the bs and the suspense.

i would rather have fewer dealings with a dealer than more.
having to go in for service is creepy enough, most of the time.

Thanks for the info. I'm gathering this to update the spreadsheet for everyone.

I need one more piece of information - what was the capitalized cost ?

Capitalized cost is $25,885.

Just leased a 2012 SL. Here is my lease information:

24 months
12K mi per year
$400 drive off (includes first month's payment. Title/registration not included)
$150 per month for the rest 23 months
No tax in my state (but my state dings me in other ways )

Factoring in the drive-off amount, it works out to be 0 down, $160 per month for 24 months.

Disposition $395 (if I return the car at the end of lease)

Daggone Venk, that sounds like an awfully schweet deal!

I'm looking at possibly leasing a 2012 SL that a dealer about 150 miles from me has had on their lot for months now. I'm new to the whole "leasing" thing though and have TONS of homework to do before I feel comfortable walking into the dealership.

Couple of questions...

1) You say you had a $400.00 "drive off" which included your first month's payment. What else made-up the balance of that payment? (I know that you didn't have to worry about taxes and that Title/Registration weren't included.)

2) What is your per mile overage charge for exceeding 12K per year?

3) What was your Capitalized Cost? How much below MSRP were you able to get them down?

4) What's the Residual Value at the end of your 24 months?

5) Lastly, if you don't mind me asking in a public forum, what dealership did you get this from? I'm asking because I figure it can't hurt my cause to cite specific examples of recent lease deals folks are getting as I try to negotiate the best possible costs/payments from my dealer.

Congrats on that excellent deal and your new SL. Enjoy!

I was initially keen about the lease calculation numbers - MF, residual etc. The numbers I had with me for a lease when I was shopping was (not my real numbers, which I'll post later) $10150 incentive from Nissan, MF of 0.00003 and 56% residual for 24 months, 12K miles. If I bought it for invoice price, it should be 0 down, $212.64 per month (with no other fees like acquisition, doc, disposition, or other dealer fees included). I also found that the best deal posted in this forum was $172 per month (for 24 mos, 12K mi), including all fees - which means, the sale price was ~$1K less than invoice.

When I spoke to this dealership I bought from, they straight quoted $176 per month, $176 to drive-off (over phone), which was pretty close to the best deal I've seen on this forum (the $172). I should give credit to dealer for not doing a bait & switch when I went in. In fact, the "Leaf specialist" sales person was very genuine in explaining every fact about the Leaf, including the range drops in winter etc. and he was very honest in asking me to evaluate if this vehicle would work for me - almost all of those facts that I had already learnt from my research in this forums and on the internet . If there was any other sales person, I probably wouldn't have decided to get the Leaf that day. Kudos to that guy!

I told the sales person and his manager that I want to be at $150 per month. After 10 mins of negotiating, we agreed on my deal. It was a very easy negotiation and best experience I've ever had.

Acquisition fee, doc fees. If there were other fees the dealer typically adds, I don't know about them.

2) What is your per mile overage charge for exceeding 12K per year?
Think its 0.16 per mile.

3) What was your Capitalized Cost? How much below MSRP were you able to get them down?

I will get this info from my paperwork later and post.

Commonwealth Nissan in Lawrence, MA.

Congrats on that excellent deal and your new SL. Enjoy!
Thanks! :D

Hope this info helps!

I may of gotten a number wrong but the dealership also ate a lot of fees. I put nothing down and my license was included in my $199. a month payment. Also when lease is up i can just turn car in at no cost to me!

Your numbers don't add up. That's a $222 payment. Did you put $$ down or something?

I know we are often asked about the 'Residual fees', but then residual should matter only to those who have an intent to buy the vehicle when the lease is over.

I would rather bargain for a 24 month low payments with no down, and not worry about the Invoice price or residual, with the intention of turning the car in after the lease is over.

This is especially true for those who are in hot climates and chose to lease rather than buy.

True - just make sure when you turn the car in, that fees isn't different from std NMAC fees. I shouldn't be since you can turn in the car at any dealership.
