a whole new chant from the dim-witted right. I spent most of my
life driving sports cars. In that time they were "chick magnets" &
cool as well as getting great gas mileage.

Leased a 2006 Miata (fantastic vehicle) and on our surf forum or
on vehicle sites the chant of "chick car" or "gay car" resounded.

A large segment of our society is simply getting more stupid, more
afraid & more belligerent.

OMG that is hilarious! That scene is clearly being ironic and tongue in cheek. I wouldn't be surprised if the guy who wrote that lives in Santa Monica and drives an electric car. The characters in the scene do have a point though. Public perception of electric cars is that they're wimpy and cutesy. I think if a car company made an electric version of a muscle car, they might have something there.

Maybe I'm stupid, but Miata, definitely a chick car. Wouldn't even call it metro - straight up estrogen infusion.

Well, the LEAF does have over boosted steering, almost white interior, a wimpy horn, need I say more?

Well, there you go.... by definition, I'm glad that you could recognize yourself.

BTW, look up the racing stats on the Miata... not wimpy in the least.

I saw the film this clip came from and enjoyed it... Interestingly, much of what was in the beginning portion of that clip was cut from the actual film...

don't be calling chicks wimps

We certainly have strayed from the original intention of the thread. I do hope more of these concept electric muscle cars will be coming to market soon.

I think the Tesla strategy of first producing a high end performance car, then coming in with the Model S, finally a true mass production Accord type car is good.

Unfortunately I have never seen a Roadster in the flesh. This is with lots of driving around Hollywood, S. Pasadena, Pacific Pallisades and all points in between. I'd have thought I'd see at least one.

Hopefully the electric car myths and prejudice will be dispelled as more EVs, and beefier EVs hit the road.

I saw a roadster in San Fran this past June - pretty sweet looking.

This is why everyone needs to floor it in D from every light when you're next to one of "those" people to show them that EV is power. Change their mind with a ride and/or drive.

You'll never change the mind of the average NASCAR fan, so you might as well not even bother. Let them get their Mobil 1 oil changes, regular tune-ups, install their MPG sucking pro-chargers, and everyone else related to automotive performance.

I'll stick to my regular tire rotation. I found it funny that after 1100 miles I had no visible brake dust on the wheels. So brake pads might be far off for us.

aren't gays like classy and stylish things? So even if someone calls Leaf gay looking car we should take it as a compliment.

That is a very funny clip but meaningless. Really?!? Old muscle cars and the Old farts that drive them??? Seriously??? Half of my gay friends are bodybuilders and could pretty much serve a beat down to anyone in the V8 Viagra crowd... the other half would be sweet enough to keep their boyfriends from hurting these old farts in the first place. Go figure.

I see them all the time. They mostly hang around the palo verdes area in the southbay. Or near ucla cause the dealer is right there and takes it out for test drives. I've checked them out before the leaf ( even if it's way over my budget). I remember them saying to me " we have a used one...... Its 80k " - yep out of my price range
