Paul, AFAIK you can't rent BEVs anywhere in the Bay Area from a rental agency (the LEAF and Volt were briefly available from Hertz or maybe it was Avis for a short time after they were introduced, in the S.F. area), although they do generally have HEVs. For a BEV or PHEV you have to use Turo or similar, and checking it for Bakersfield there's not many options there. I figure BEVs will be mainstream when you can rent one routinely at any Hertz, Avis or Enterprise as easily as you rent an ICE. I found a Bolt LT w/QC and 200 miles/day on Turo, but I would have had to travel a bit to pick it up as I'm not in a Turo BEV hotspot like S.F. or Silicon Valley, and the cost per day is substantially higher than you'd usually get at an agency.

Sorry but unless someone can visually confirm, I don't believe it. This type of erroneous information has been posted to Plugshare several times. I see there are no pix, no real evidence this is the case. If it were true, that would take out any 800 volt cars since no 350 kw option would exist. I find this incredibly hard to believe

EA's site is showing 349 open, but as only two have been notified I believe 348 is the correct number. Per WetEV, two sites are open, making 19 for the month and 348 total: Bakersfield (W), CA (I-5 ex. 244 & 246, Jct. S.R. 43/119); Huntington Beach, CA (Urb., well SW of I-405 ex. 12 & 14).

I'm calling the site "Bakersfield (W)", because while it may be within the city limits, it's a good 20 miles WSW of the city on I-5, and is meant to serve traffic along it. It's 189 miles north to Patterson, so they still need the site(s) in Harris Ranch (90 miles) and/or Firebaugh (124 miles) to open to make this leg practical. In the meantime people can travel along the San Joaquin Valley on S.R. 99, as that's well supplied with EA and other QC sites.

And now, the answer to the question that almost no one possibly excepting WetEV has been asking: "Why is 348 so much better than 347?"

On Nov. 30th, 2018, EA had just 48 open QC sites. In 4 days short of one year they've opened another 300, which to my mind is a semi-major achievement. To be sure, the only way they could do this is to have agreements with major chains like Walmart and Target to use their parking lots, so many of the sites aren't exactly oversupplied with eating options, especially if you want more than fast food, and their parking lots aren't known for their scenic properties or other amenities - they're just about the last place I'd choose to spend time at. Their pricing is also slanted against certain makes.

The more important thing is that the sites exist, Walmarts etc. are certainly better than putting them at car dealerships, and it's now possible to road trip using only QCs over a fairly large percentage of the U.S. interstate system, in a BEV not made by Tesla. So, Yaay for them and us!

The one in Paducah KY (I-24) has one CCS-150/CHAdeMO-50 and three 350 of the CCS type. They are about 6 months old. I have not been to another WM with chargers.

Sure, it's human to attach undue significance to otherwise meaningless numerical milestones, birthdays, holidays, years, records. Speaking of which , . .

As you note, two sites are open, making 21 for the month and an even rounder 350 total (the site's still showing one extra for 351): Pleasanton, CA (Urb., I-580 ex. 46); Murrieta, CA (I-215 ex. 1, just N. of Jct. I-15).

Murrieta is infill between the sites at Riverside and Escondido, offering more stopping options and chargers but is not really necessary (they're only 65 miles apart), except to provide shorter spacing for a reserve (30/37 miles to either), which is certainly useful.

Salem's been "Coming soon" for quite a while, and as it's the state capital I'm surprised it took so long. Hopefully the one in Springfield, which has been on the list as long as Salem, will also open soon, as that one's wanted by people heading over to Bend from the SW.

Also, as expected the listing for Pompton Plains, NJ has now been corrected to that for the standard urban site: 2 CCS/1 CCS-CHAdeMO/1L2.

Firebaugh makes I-5 in the San Joaquin Valley practical, although the listing seems to be in error. I sent EA the following email:

The listing for the just-opened site at Firebaugh ("Panoche Shell") states it has 2 CCS and 2 CCS-CHAdeMO, but a Plugshare check-in as states it has a more typical set-up of 3 CCS/1 CCS-CHAdeMO. A photo of the site on Plugshare confirms 4 pedestals, but which is correct? To date, none of your sites has had more than 1 CHAdeMO. There seem to be an increasing number of errors in your site listings, and some more care is needed.

I'd also sent them one re Pompton Plains and a few other sites with questions, and they've fixed those fairly quickly.
