I believe Courtesy Chevrolet has many locations in CA. Perhaps they're speaking of 87 total in all of their dealerships across CA.

Just for information, 2 Europeans links:

For France:

Now, 25 Leaf in 2011 (most of them are probably cars for Nissan showrooms) but now, we can buy it, so the volume will increase soon.
(iMiev and her twin sisters Peugeot and Citroen reaches 800, but they have been sold since a few months)

In Netherlands:

At least 80 Leaf according to the photo...

Wow, the Leaf fad in Japan must be over or the supply severely constrained...

I would think it is more a reflection of socially responsible people dealing with a very compromised electrical grid.

Couldn't they charge at night when the grid is not strained?

They already have moved consumption (factories) into the off hours in an attempt to rebalance loads. It sounds like everyone is doing their part to help.

It's not exactly as if refining and distributing and pumping gas doesn't use any electricity.

I agree but its the public PERCEPTION of extravagant energy consumption (which its not). I have an asian wife and am very close to her VERY strict family. They have a VERY different sense of social conformity and social responsibility than Americans. If the Japanese Government says "decrease electrical usage!" they will do it without question. Pulling up in a new LEAF will probably not be "acceptable" until the grid is stabilized.

During last summer, I was in Japan, and there was not blackout, but everyday, in the newspaper, close to the weather forecast, there was Energy forecast.
For example : "today, no big stress, but take care between 2pm and 3pm (because of air conditioning)".

So, the success of the Leaf in Japan will depend on the power plants in Japan.

Not sure how reliable this info is, but here is what came in half an hour ago:

I thought you should know that we are actually OVERSTOCKED ON VOLTS!!! I have at least 87 to choose from as of this morning and you can benefit from our problem! ALL VOLTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR ONLY $500.00 over invoice this week only until we get the selection down to a managable level! Please call me as this deal is only available by seeing Tony Signorelli at Courtesy Chevrolet!
I think they have 87 cars in total - if you had expressed interest in Volt - they just use that to send the mail to you (basically mail merge with the same text, just replacing the car you had shown interest in for the model).

Yes, very misleading and unethical. But not surprising.

So LEAF is likely waaaay over 12K in 2011 sales so far. If they can do about 2K for the next four months Nissan will have sold over 20K LEAFs for the year. Isn't that what Nissan said they were striving for all along? Even before the earthquake? How do we get numbers on UK and Europe so they can be included in the total?

The JP AUG-11 number was 529 units reported by following post from the JADA documents.
http://logsoku.com/thread/yuzuru.2ch.net/auto/1314545920/#356" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Yoshi@Japan

I founded European sales for the 1st semester:
Leaf: 580 units (no details month per month sorry).

http://www.automobile-propre.com/2011/09/28/marche-voiture-electrique-europe-2011/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So add the European sales for the first half of 2011 and Japan sales for July and August and we are over 13,000 at the end of August. Nissan should have no problem moving over 20,000 Leafs before the end of 2011. GM would need to sell over 4,000 Volts per month for the next four months (September included) just to catch up to the Leaf. That's more per month than they have sold to date!

Nissan LEAF beat the Volt once again ... 1,031 LEAF's versus 723 Volt's (as per evnow); decrease I would expect would be due to model changeover but this isn't mentioned in the news release

"Sales of the 100-percent electric Nissan LEAF totaled 1,031 units in September, with total sales of 7,217 units of the innovative, zero-emissions vehicle since its December 2010 U.S. debut."
