Range shorter than EPA (if you want to protect battery)

I'm an electrical engineer who has discovered that Lithium-ion batteries don't like to be charged below 20% or above 80% so that limits the useful battery range to 60% of the EPA rating:

Your math is flawed because the Leaf's computer already takes this into account and does not allow you to use the maximum capacity of the battery. So just because the graph on the dash says you are at 0% or 100% doesn't really mean you are at this state-of-charge. The Leaf instrumentation only shows the user the portion of the battery to which they are allowed to use inside the safe window. The EPA rating reflects the safe window of usage.
