I've had exactly one QC--that at the dealer.
Hmm, whatever you're doing it's causing your battery to lose capacity slightly faster than mine. I've probably QCd 20 times or so, so still not that many.

Here's a couple threads:

For some, things were loose, for others, a bit of lube helped, for others, the motor/gearbox was replaced.

For me, the Leaf has really lived up to its "almost no maintenance" promise.
I agree - except for the new battery I'll need to make my weekly 48 mile commute in another 6 months to a year.

So, you've been clunking since August? Probably time to have that looked at. If they replace it under warranty, you could say "You know, the battery is getting pretty low, too...can we save a trip, and do that now as well?"

And yes, it's a real mystery why your capacity loss has been slower than mine. A 48-mile commute would seem to be quite helpful! My commutes--which have changed 3 times over the last 1.5 years--have all been lower. Dunno.

The 48-mile commute has only been occurring once a week for the last 5 months or so. The rest of the time it's my 30-mile commute. The longer commute definitely heats up the battery more. I don't doubt that a 50 mile commute daily for a year would probably have put me over the edge. At 46.0 Ah this morning (down from 47.0 Ah in Dec) - need to get down to ~43 Ah or lower - need to hope for Phoenix like temperatures (35C+) to make that happen. And I simply don't have time to try driving around QCing to heat up the pack.

Had my warranty replacement done at Mossy in Oceanside.
Very good service. I dropped it off in the morning and got an auto text alert (NissanConnect) that evening that the battery was full.

Here are the screen grabs the following morning if anyone is interested

If you want to get it to Phoenix I bet I know someone reputable who will get that sucker nice and toasty until June...

I'm another guy trying to lose that 4th bar, in my case by mid-June, who tried to keep it topped-off for a while. Easy to do, as I have a short commute and free chargers at work. During about a 3 week stretch that I did this, I checked AHr frequently. It started at 44.50, and ended up at 44.69! Ever time I checked, it was either same as the previous, or went up. Depressing.

I was getting steady AHr decline until I did a QC. This happened twice, and my current belief is topping 100% often or QC will improve battery cell balancing which in turn raises AHr. However it might be moot point to look at AHr to that degree as I presume the car will try really hard to balance the cells before dropping a bar anyway. This also sits well with me to explain why there's such variance in battery loss timing compared with AHr.

Here's the updated data for those interested. Hopefully I'll make it on time...

Where my father-in-law got his done, and where I hope to get mine done. My experience with them has been very positive; so was F-I-Ls on his replacement.

That one screen capture--GIDs off the chart?!?! Nice!

I don't think the CAN parameter that Turbo or whoever found which is reported in Leaf Spy is the actual raw Hx value from the BMS.

Leafspy is getting the raw Hx number.

I'm referring to the actual value the bms spits out in its instantaneous form. I believe the car computer (VCM?) has logic to determine when to update.. maybe averaging. If I had to guess, if it WERE the raw bms value, it would be constantly be flickering regardless.. something in the car is smoothing it out.

The BMS doesn't spit this value out. It must be asked for by sending a special CAN message out.(See this thread on how it's done)

The VCM is the one determining capacity bars. As well as SOH. Yes, there's averaging. It's relying on Hx and probably other factors to make the calculation. Essentially this thread is full of people trying to figure out what these factors are, and how that averaging can be... encouraged... to be trued up. ;)

Again, the raw Hx value comes from the BMS (LBC in Nissan parlance) and it recalculates at most every time the car is started. There's no "flickering" at least with this particular value. There may be others on the bus we don't know about, able to be queried, whatever. But Hx doesn't just hop around while driving. Sorry.

My dealer performed my battery swap last Thursday while I was out of town, and I picked up Pearl today:

NewLeafBattery.jpg

It surprised me to see on the paperwork that the battery was only $47xx. Is that what others have seen, or has it gone down?
Anyways, it was a kick to pick Pearl up and see 111 miles on the GOM. I'm just happy to be able to go back to 80% charging every day. Of course, the dealer also left some air out of all my tires. :?

My leaf finally got its new battery over the weekend and I picked it up last night. Wow, the driving experience is amazing! The old battery was lucky to get 20kw regen on empty, this battery is giving me 30kw when nearly full.

Oh, and still having 60 miles on the GOM after a 20 mile drive at 70MPH was pretty nice too!

Battery replaced on my 2011 LEAF at 27,687 on March 3, 2016

Just dropped off the leaf for the new battery, they are going to take a poop-load of pics, and will document the best than can. I'll post when I get it back on friday. I got a 2016 Versa for a loaner ( no dogs clause)....

I don't think we need a new thread on this.

Perhaps this should be added to one of the existing ones? Maybe http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=14102 is a good one?

MNL, the board. Numerous moderators have complained many times about new threads being started for no reason.

I can't easily find all their posts about this, but here are some.

http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=178991#p178991
http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=163950#p163950

Awhile ago, someone else started a thread for them losing their 9th bar, so they started a new thread. I asked that it be merged and it was done: http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=453959#p453959. Can you imagine if everyone started a new thread after losing their nth capacity bar?

I even posed a related question at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=20244.

So instead of adding repetitive info on this post...I have a 2011, couldn't get more than 50 miles out of it... new battery, wow, 120 miles on the guess - o - meter, from the stealership there's a good 2 mile down hill, wow great response in regen, the old battery would regen more as the battery wore down, now its ...just awesome. drove to a side of Oahu that was hard to drive to, cause I'd have to top off 30 miles in just to get to a safe spot to charge to get home, the round trip is 55 miles to a great trail for me and the dog.
