You may not know if all you got was a call and said you car would be here in a few days. And unless you have your VIN you would not know and I do not think by law they have to tell you. Because it was not a pre owned car.

Unlikely Nissan would take the time to offer anybody a "wrong-color" orphan.

The computer would probably scan for all the "exact" matches (perhaps an exception for some easily-changed accessories, like Mats) and exclude (on the first pass) those who live "too far" from the car's location.

Then, call the first on the list and ask if they would like (and are sufficiently prepared for) an early delivery.

Some will still need to get financing, dig out their garage, feel that they need to install an EVSE, are not "in town", etc.

First hand-raiser gets it?

Unlikely, but possible that re-delivery distance would not be an issue, but ... only the Shadow knows!

Indeed, those waiting for cars at the same dealer (zero re-delivery distance) MIGHT get first choice.

And last, just because I'm feeling cantankerous, what's with all the preemptive "Official Thread" threads lately? Placeholders? I would expect each new owner or special case to make their own thread with the details and title to match. Nobody is going to go looking for an Official Thread to respond to.
I need my coffee.

EVNow seems to like to call his threads "Official", so every once in a while you need to post one of your own "Official" threads.

I think we need an official "GroundLoop's Official Thread on Official Threads".

If they'd put it on a train and ship it to thr east coast, I'd buy it. Unfortunately my preferred dealer is probably not set up to service LEAFs yet, but who knows, they just built a brand-new building and showroom with a very nice service shop... But, it ain't gonna happen; I'll just have to wait a year (or more) to get my LEAF.

Any dealers want to speak up about their current understanding if this situation arises?
See my earlier post...THAT is how it'll go down, less I get told differently later on.

Thanks - didn't realize you were a dealer until I read the .sig

That's exactly my understanding too - despite what the other posters have said. Be kind to our supportive dealers - if you plan on canceling your order, wait until the dealer has the car. At least they can then make a few bucks off of it for the efforts put in.

That is the problem Nissan is trying to avoid the dealer selling over MSRP.

You were listening to the very same conversation that I was and the main concern I heard is that they want people who went through the reservation system (the same long process we all are going through) to get the initial cars. They don't want someone who is willing to just throw money at a dealer to be the one to receive the early cars.

Nissan will be involved in these deliveries and I do feel that they will take back or re-appropriate any cars that are not purchased by the original reservation holders.

deetime - See my earlier post...The way that it was explained to us was..If a customer cancels their "reservation" prior to ordering, then that 'open slot' gets filled by Nissan; if an "order" is made and a customer cancels during that time, before delivery, then the Dealers will still be sent that car thus, making it available as their "Dealer Demo" or an "orphan" sell.

Maybe you will have to ask your boss or Nissan Corporate.

This is not what the dealers have been told. Besides deetime7767's statements on this thread, see the comment by Leon from Mossy Nissan on Dec. 19th in this thread: http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1238&start=150:

I was told in August that a leaf cancelled greater than 30 days from delivery would be put back in the pool. 29 days or less the dealer would get the car.

Things could change, but it seems at one point that Nissan told the dealers if a car arrives and the person who ordered it doesn't buy it, then they get to sell it to whomever.

TT

What mossyleaf said was - I was told in August that a leaf cancelled greater than 30 days from delivery would be put back in the pool. 29 days or less the dealer would get the car. So truly I don't know yet...but we'll see. That was a long time ago in a galaxy far far away at this point.

What we heard a week ago. We said as clearly as we can say. I do think this can change but they will start as we said they have said.

Possible orphan? You decide:

My PD has a white Leaf delivered yesterday and the owner has yet to respond to voicemail or email concerning pickup.

Granted, only 24 hours have elapsed but you'd think that someone who got in so early on the ordering would be someone paying at least a LITTLE attention to what was going on.

???

People are busy. Could be on vacation or something.

Pacific Nissan say how long they'd hold the car before "orphaning" it and what their next steps would be?

Yeah - would certainly hope it's at least a couple of weeks. Stuff happens, life happens. Just because you can't reach someone instantly doesn't mean they are no long interested. It would be a major bummer to have waited this long and then have the car sold out from underneath you.

I'm not suggesting that they will Orphan the car and sell it quickly. When I asked about what they will do if the buyer never responds the response was they are waiting for Nissan Corporate to tell them that what/why/how of orphaning a car. They won't make a move without Nissan Corporate giving them the go ahead. But they DID have someone come in the other day asking basically 'how much $$ would it take to get me a Leaf now?'. When things like that happen, dealers see dollar-signs and that might, MIGHT influence their actions. :|

I guess that when you come to this forum, you see the excitement level of everyone and automatically assume that ALL Leaf owners are just as involved and excited. At least I do. :p
