Say you upgrade your 2015 Leaf to either 30kWh or 40kWh.

How much would you value it compared to a native 30/40? This is my reasoning.

24->30: 90% of native 30kWh value (model 2016-2017)

24->40: 70% of native 40kWh value (model 2018-2019 , missing propilot + other gen2 features)

What do you guys think?

Personally .....for me a 2015 with a 30kWh pack would be virtually identical to a 2016/2017 30kWh car. 90% would be on the low end of what I would value it as.

For a 40kWh swap, 70% would be a very attractive price for me since it would give the additional range to a car I know and love.

The counter-argument to all this is that the swap would be unsupported by the factory so if something did go wrong, the repairs could be much harder. Maybe that's FUD but my 2017 is under warranty for 8 years and I would have to weigh the ramifications of invalidating the warranty. If I had a 2015 there would still be some concern as the warranty would be shorter and closer to over but it is still a consideration.

Bottom line, I think 90% and 70% are very attractive prices for a 2015 with 30kWh or 40kWh packs.

Sounds about right to me as a starting point. My naive estimate would be to treat it as a 30 or 40kWh car, but 1-3 years older and knock off 10% per extra year. The downside is (I assume) a lack of battery warranty, and difficulty in getting it serviced. Could the new owner bring it in to a Nissan dealer to have either the 30kWh BMS update or the 40kWh Rapidgate update applied? If not, I'd probably take off an extra 20%.

Used (and even new) Leaf pricing is very local-market-dependent. If you are selling it in an area where Leafs are popular, or perversely in an area where they are unpopular enough to be rare but people also seek them, you can command a premium price. If the market is glutted locally, the car will be devalued even with a bigger pack.
