Nissan Leaf Motor Test with my homemade controller

Has anyone been able to get the controller to work as a standalone unit. I have a new motor that I designed that weighs only 35 pounds and puts out 50 HP at 5000 RPM. Need a high voltage controller like the Leaf..

Disappointment with battery capacity and "Nissan miles"

I agree with your sentiments. I am an engineer but also trusting and I was over enthusiastic that a major car maker had produced an all electric car. If I knew then what I know now.. ( song title ??) I would NOT have bought it.. Would I recommend it now to anyone? Yes as long as they listened to...

Disappointment with battery capacity and "Nissan miles"

THat is what I thought and kw= volts x amps that's all and since the volts stays pretty constant it is reasonable to just amp-hrs for the Li batteries. Now i have not lost any of the narrow bars yet the most "miles" I get by the Leaf-o -Meter is 73 now. That seems to mean that i haven't lost the...

Disappointment with battery capacity and "Nissan miles"

The class action suite that I heard abount only talked about the number of narrow bars showing .. Nothing in it mentions kWhrs stored.. If what you say is correct then the number will always be 12...however i think we are not being careful about which of the two bar graphs we are referencing...

Disappointment with battery capacity and "Nissan miles"

I have 12 bars showing and still am getting only 45-48 miles... Next time I do a charge I will monitor the kW going in and see if it makes sense. It seems to take the 3.3 kW ( level 2 ) for at least 8 hours for an almost dead battery so that looks like the battery can take a full charge of...

Disappointment with battery capacity and "Nissan miles"

My mistake... When I bought the LEAF I did not know as much as ( or as little ) as I do now about the chemistries using Li . The LIFePO4 chemistry is one that I used for the ecar that I built and so I am familiar with it. I decided when designing my "fuel gage" to just use kWhrs remaining as I...

Disappointment with battery capacity and "Nissan miles"

THanks, I am impressed. The app looks very useful. I will get this and then be informed. It might not change the outcome but knowledge is very valuable. I have had all the recommended service checks and each time the battery looks great. BTW the cell voltage doesn't not tell how much Ahr is...

Disappointment with battery capacity and "Nissan miles"

My June 2011 leaf is either having serious battery problems or the gages are screwed up. ( FYI: So you know I am a techy, I am an EE design electric motors , control systems , and have built an electric car from scratch. ) I charge it overnight and it says it's full, charger shuts off, in the...

sudden loss of regen. or accel problem

I am amazed that you claim 5.6 m/kwhr...I have never got more than 4 from new!!

"gas" Pedal get stuck and when braking it does not re-gen

Seems similar to my problem that I have posted elsewhere in the forum... Good point about 100% charge and no regen.. of course if the battery is full there's no place for the energy to go... I will try with a full charge and half charged pack to see if it makes the difference. They could have...

sudden loss of regen. or accel problem

After the latest software upgrade Aug 2013 on my 2011 Leaf I notice that once in a while it behaves as though the regn is off and the car coasts and almost feels like it is accelerating such that i have to brake much harder than usual. I also notice that although when fully charged it shows 10...

    new LEAF for OLD

I thought that the Level 3 would be available so i bought my Leaf with this installed. Now i realise that this was a mistake. BUT I could make a 240 volt charger that converted to a 400 volt DC system and then use the expensive connector on the 2011 LEAF. Does anyone have the tech specs for the...

    new LEAF for OLD

Here's the "conversation " with Nissan's rep. I do not see why the 2011 Leaf cannot be upgraded to the 2013 level 2 6.6 kW charger so i asked : Renee: In answer to your questions, yes you can use the same cord and you would get the quicker charging on the 2013 leaf if it has the 6.6 charger...

    2013 leaf with 2011 J1772 level 2.

Does anyone know if the new leaf can use the 2011 EVSE adapter and if so does it work with level 2 at 6 kW. I have a level 2 installed and thinking of a second leaf. Need to be sure that both Leafs will work with same level 2. Any real info on this?

A/C Heating crazy or what!! Some griping too...

    1. If i want to have max heat I find that unless I set the temp to 90 I do not get full heat, this matches the enrgy display graphical display too. At a few degrees over ambient the heat output drops to 1.5 kW but if set to 90 it goes to 3 kW... I guess I'd like a " Fast heat" setting..as I make...

    Cold in Colorado!

I live in Santa Barbara and we have had a few nights down to 30.. the result on range is very significant. From about 100 miles ( 100% charge ) to about 75 . Reality is that I can just make a 70 mile round trip on almost flat freeway. Did come back one day with only ------ on the miles left...

    New low price EVSE

My idea is not to make any money from this. The cost of $149 that my son is charging is just to make a very professional job of a simple splicing and to attach high quality UL approved L6-30 connectors. This is not a dangerous idea. Ignorance is more dangerous and BTW I am a professional...

    New low price EVSE

Hi Guys, Thanks for all your comments, most are correct. It does use both 120 and 240 connections. The system is simple and yes it does splice into the J cord. It is as safe as when you run a welder, saw bench or other 240 volt system on an extension cord, as commonly done at construction sites...

    New low price EVSE

I own a Leaf and have converted the EVSE so that I can charge at Level 2. I've been using it for 3 months, so I decided to start a company in these trying times and will modify your EVSE for only $149 (save yourself $100 from what others are charging). If you need information check out his...

    Weekend(s) Project - DIY EVSE

You can get contactors ( surplus market ) for much less and they guarantee complete isolation. Although the power and control are opto-isolated or RF isolated the power switching is via triacs or SCRs and they can fail to a short.. It is very unusual for a contactor to short it's outputs. I like...
