Had the P3227 reprogram done today: interesting results.

I think he's a she. Would probably dislike that more! :D
Who could tell by that moniker?
I'm sorry, but I would put that mishap square on the shoulders of Apple's autocorrect feature in Safari. I specifically copied the poster's nick, but since I was naive enough to capitalize the first letter, autocorrect butted in and made it much worse.

yep. definitely a girl. haha

it's okay though, i've been in this industry for far too long to let that affect me.

it's okay, it makes me sound scary.

Very interesting! I am now showing 11 capacity bars where before I had 10! We'll see what an overnight 100% charge brings...
That should reduce the warranty claims significantly :| A little software change just saved Nissan a bundle.

This is why I suggested that Nissan does need to provide a more technical explanation of the adjustment, to counter the natural doubt that people will have.

Wait, don't you have a '13 Leaf? If so, I don't think the update is applicable to the '13 . IIRC from the Phoenix Andy Palmer town hall meeting, the '13 already has the changes (that are being made to the '11s and '12s).

As a side note, I think I recall meeting a female in the Bay Area named Hieu, ages ago. It's a Vietnamese name.

This ought to make the battery capacity loss Wiki really confusing! Folks who are on the list for two bars lost moving back to one... or maybe none!

We need more folks with GID meters to report in. Gaining back GIDs would probably be a good thing. Unless the definition of a GID has changed because of new firmware.

no i unfortunately have a '11 with 28000 miles for 15,368. i recognize my mistake now. but i thought i was safe being as it has all 12 bars. oh well, i'm stuck with it and other than the range issue i LOOOOOVE this car. it's so cute.

i have never met any other girl named hieu. it's always guys. and yea i'm vietnamese. yayyy

Yeah, the real question is, obviously, is it real... I'll know definitively by the end of the weekend, and also have a full Gid report of the before and after!
My gut says no, but I'd like to be proved wrong for obvious reasons...

Based on what I have observed so far after having mine done this morning and then doing a QC this afternoon, it may some time for the system to restabilize. Kind of like when Mwalsh had his BCM replaced some time ago...

Oh... Hmm, it might help to indicate your model year in your signature (along w/that you bought it used). Do you know what month the car was built in? I think the build month and year should be on a sticker on the driver's side.

You sure you have all 12 capacity bars? To be clear, we're talking about the thin bars all the way on the right side. See http://www.mynissanleaf.com/wiki/index.php?title=File:Scott_3_bars_s.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for a 3 bar loser. If you still have all of them, I suspect you're on the cusp of losing 1 soon (can be confirmed via a gidmeter). I wouldn't be surprised if you lose 2 capacity bars by end of September 2013.

I contended that the LBC was artificially limiting the use of the slightly degraded pack in a way that drastically reduced range over the actual degradation.

Let's hope I am indeed correct and that this restores some lost autonomy in people's LEAFs with some degradation.
If you look at the gain in Gids TomT reported, the range loss due to LBC programming and other errors would be on the order of about 5%. Additionally, Nissan's own testing in Casa Grande has indicated that one of the Phoenix LEAFs (Red500), which lost three capacity bars, was experiencing 16% degradation based on their lab test. Tony's range test determined 17.5% range loss for this particular vehicle.

While there is good indication that some of the perceived capacity loss occurred because of software and controller programming, I have to object to the notion of "slightly degraded packs" when referring to vehicles with more than one lost capacity bar. We discussed this before and there is simply too much evidence to the contrary. That said, this looks like a good software upgrade so far. Let's see what else is reported from the field. Personally, I would reserve judgement until more data comes in.

where can i get a gid meter? i want to start getting into all of this now...and yea, i'm pretty sure i'm about to lose one. i wouldn't be surprised.

Hieu, you might be better off getting this: http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=278726" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There are many at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewforum.php?f=44" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. An example is at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=269771#p269771" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (prices at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=8527" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Turbo3 lives near me.

If you have an Android device/phone, http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=12098" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I think is a MUCH cheaper solution. I believe some folks are buying cheapo $40 Virgin Mobile Android phones to use w/this (don't need active service to use this).

It would actually be more interesting to get gid readings at 100% charge BEFORE you get the update and after, to see if there's a change. If you're going to do this, perhaps postpone your update? I think that might be prudent anyways I highly doubt the update will improve your range or anything.

Cool. There's discussion of the data from that app at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=12789" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

I would probably get an extension cable as advised at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=301738#p301738" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; as I wouldn't want to wear out the car's OBD2 connector by putting too many cycles on it. I also believe (I don't follow closely as I don't have a Leaf yet) that the Bluetooth adapter they're using is unfortunately continually powered even if the car is off, so leaving it on the car could eventually deplete the 12 volt if left attached for too long.

Someone chime in if I'm wrong.

She won't need an extension cable because as long as she exits the App (using the App 'exit'), it won't deplete her 12V if she drives it at least every other day. I've left mine plugged in for over a month without even a one tenth Volt loss.

This is the first I have heard about the software update. I haven't received any notification. How did you know about it?

The Simvalley Mini ELM327 Bluetooth OBD2 Auto Diagnostics I bought comes with an on/off button. Some days I leave it on, others I turn it off when exiting the car. Mine was only $22.49. I will turn if off if I am not going to drive/charge the car for a couple of days. I found that it does not get too hot either.

It's been mentioned a few times elsewhere on here... I believe that the official notification mails out on June 21 but the update is already in the dealers systems and available. It also updates the charger software to supposedly improve compatibility with some EVSEs.
