LOL. Looks like English is now undergoing the largest transformation since the Great Vowel Shift.

What???

I still think it is 'first come, first served'.

For people in the initial rollout area who did everything they could to be first -- realize that they are in an area where several hundred people were signing up for a few hundred cars. So Dave would be in the second wave of orders.

I think I got in August 8 because I am in a less-inhabited area. The other areas of the launch are 3 to 5 times more populous.

Nubo, thanks for the translation!

I just got off the phone with Nissan. I spoke with a couple of folks and they indicated that my September order date (which for the second time was referred to by them as a "late August, early September" date) was indeed a "first wave" order date and I should expect delivery of my car in December.

Take it for what it's worth.

That is good news for us September people. I was wondering why some people in CA and WA received September dates when Nissan lists CA and WA as an August Launch states. Texas and Hawaii are September launch states.

Sorry the speech into text on my android phone ( sorry it's the speech to text on my android phone)
i hit the wrong button and entered it instead of deleted it .

no way i'd prefer you to make sure that we might have some #### cents ( normally i would be proofread it to make sure it made half ass sense

Granted the system needs work but sometimes it is very entertaining

I addressed this on my site a couple days ago. In a nutshell, orders are placed 90 days prior to delivery. Since delivery won't start til December, August and (at least early) September orders will be delivered in December. Nissan may have decided to start in August to spread out their early order burden.

The Leaf specialist at Santa Monica Nissan told me something interesting in our conversation today:

Me: so once I place an order, do I have to put down a non-refundable deposit?

Rep: No, there isn't a non-refundable deposit, since under California law, you have the right to cancel right up until you get the car.

Another day, another chat - about my account. No official fix yet, but I think the issue is fixed.

Earlier when I clicked on "view nissan leaf launch schedule" I was getting an error. Now it says "we'll email you to let you know when it's time to order your Nissan LEAF."

Couple of interesting quotes.

Code:
Ryan:
According to the reservation you have been chosen as a participant in the free-charging dock study, so you will be one of the first people to get a LEAF.

EVNow:
btw, do you know what the difference is between getting august vs september in the mails that were sent out ?

Ryan:
The dealers want the dates spread out so the LEAF customers don't swamp them at the same time.

EVNow:
But won't august people get the car earlier than september ?

Ryan:
Not necessarily
The vehicle doesn't go into production until October.

So, may be the difference between August & September might just be whether dealers in your area are swamped or not. My dealer said he had 3 pages full of names....

that makes total sense. i wondered why we had to pre-order so far in advance. i was on the 2010 Prius priority list as well, but we were advised of the program at the launch ceremony in Detroit which happened in Jan. we had until the middle of Feb to make a commitment (which we could back out of at anytime before delivery) and final commitments in April. deliveries were staggered as well, i got mine mid may 2009. there were probably less than a dozen in the country when i got mine.

Well I live in sub's of Phoenix so maybe we have more charging stations ready. I know for years we had over 20 at APS electric company offices. I had my wife all day refreshing my email account and I was at work spending a lot of time at my desk instead of out working :) Watching the chatter on Facebook. Within minutes after around 3:35PM Arizona time I got the email and sent it back.

So it is obvious that the time sending it in wasn't the whole factor because my email came in at 2:55 MST (same as PDT) and went to the website and ordered within a few minutes. I also live in a suburb of Phoenix, but still received "Sept." as my ordering month. Here's the reason I received from Nissan for the Sept. ordering month: "As you can imagine, the response for the Nissan LEAF has been tremendous. Initial orders do start in late August and continue after that based on the original reservation date by market. Based on your information your order date will be in September due to limited availability and the number of reservations in your market." (I underlined.) Now, what this tells me is that Gonewild's received Aug. because there were either more or less reservations there than here. After reading another post, I believe the dealer he chose doesn't have as many orders than the one here. :)

SHOULD be cooler? LOL...it WILL be much cooler, no doubt at all! I had fire engine red and now white, and the temp difference inside (same color interior) is very significant. :)

I posted the same thing last week on another thread or earlier in this one...I'm in Arizona and that's exactly what my dealer told me. So no more money needed to order! :)

Are you saying that the color makes a difference or it does not make it hotter?

If this is true, is there any actual information about who would receive their Leafs first in this August/Sept order group? Ryan says that participants in the free-charging dock study will be the first people to get a Leaf. Does this mean if you were not selected for the free home charger that you would not be one of the first to receive a Leaf? It would be nice if Nissan gave us a little more info on this.

Thanks for this info, evnow! I feel better about my September date - dealers here aren't likely to have three pages of customers - they're more likely to have three on a page. :D

Hopefully no plans for "voice driving" any time soon

Talking about speech to text - this is what Vonage sent me (for those who don't know, they take the voice mail, translate to text and send it in email).

Code:
Hi this message is for EVNow* but tomorrow off my my name is Yvonne calling from Nissan electric vehicle customer support. Just contacting you sir to let you know although we do not have a resolution about why you've not received your email and with the data on your order timing. We I wanted to touch base with you and let you know we are certainly looking into it and just as soon as I have a resolution for you. We will be in touch either by phone or email or both. If you have any questions in the meantime please feel free to contact us again at 877-664-2738. Thank you for your patience and have a great day

One thing to note - is that when speaking we make a many grammer "mistakes". To an extent that is what you see here ... I'd highly recommend Stven Pinker's "The Language Instinct" on this.

* - No, I haven't used my handle instead of real name when reserving Leaf

^ That's actually way better than Google Voice's voicemail transcription. But then Goog-411 used to be awful on voice recognition and it has since improved tremendously, so I suspect this will improve a lot in the next few months as well.
