Took my car to Elk Grove Nissan today with 8 bars left and they told me that is perfectly normal and I should expect the battery to continue a fast decline and failure then they charged me $62.50 for my wasted time. Need to call 877nogasev and get them straight on the court settlement and warranty. Frustrated that my local dealership is so useless on this.

Wow, I wouldn't leave without a scandal in such a situation.

Sad but true, of some Dealers!

I checked with two Dealers before deciding which one to take my car in. One place could hardly tell me if they had swapped out any batteries, the other indicated that they were just working on three.

You can guess which one I chose. Even so, Service Staff are not the technical specialist and the process is not always clear. I also called into the Nissan Customer Service Line for additional clarification on the process, doesn't hurt. The Nissan Customer service guy gave a good overview. Also indicated I did not need to leave car at Dealer while waiting for the new battery. One of the Dealer staff made it sound like I had to.

Good Luck at your next try, but call ahead to see if they can answer basic questions properly.

Wow! I would have called 877nogasev right then and there. Make sure you get a full refund!!!! I would also take it to a different dealer if I were you. If they told you that was normal, obviously they have no clue,

Unfortunately my wife is the one that took the car and she wasn't as clear on the warranty. I will be changing dealers for sure now and Nissan will be hearing loudly from me about this dealer.

I'm still waiting on my Battery! It's been 8 weeks! I see people Getting their battery's in 3 weeks in the same area as me. It's not like I live in the middle of nowhere, I'm in So Cal and we probably have the most Leafs per capita than anywhere else.
Okay done ranting for the day.

I'm in SoCal too. I just ordered mine on 4/15. I told the service rep I knew it takes about 6 weeks, to which she replied that she had a friend who's been waiting 3 months!!

It took my local Nissan dealer a week to get the new battery installed (their first replacement, so "I want to let my master tech take his time on it"), and I'm very happy with it. Seeing the GOM showing >100 miles caused a verbal "woohoo!", that luckily no one heard because it was after hours when I picked it up :)

Is there anything that LeafSpy shows me that could verify for sure that it's the new 2015 model battery rather than "just a replacement"?

Not sure where you'd gimpatul (I had to, given your member name :D ) A Palantir' might help you spot a label on the pack in those hard to see areas  .

Based on posts made on MNL, all replacement batteries have been the updated version available at the time. Some have also posted the part numbers of the battery they got. Use the Google search function of this forum.

The part number should be on your paper work. You can compare with others in this thread; may be a difference between "heater" and "no heater" (see my sig for latter).

Lost my 4th bar this morning. :D :D :D

Here are the stats:
2011 Silver Nissan Leaf SL JN***07626
ODO: 49212
SOH: 65.55
HX: 59.50
Ahr: 43.43
GIDS: 183 at full charge
Warranty Expiration: 08/28/2016

Bay Area climate with a commute of about 45 miles round trip the last two and half years. Prior to that I had commute of about 25 miles roundtrip.
It was 9 bars after full charge and 183 GIDs on Saturday morning. I drove for about 10 miles yesterday and didn't charge the car last night. This morning the 9th bar is gone! :D
Can't wait for the new battery and drive this beauty for another 5 years! :p
Should I call Nissan's No-GAS-EV number or take the car directly to the dealer?

I'm hoping I have a testing failure for my battery. I just bought my 2011 SL Leaf from San Diego. Nice low mile car that has not been driven much. I checked and all the service updates have been done, and there is no opt out on the warrenty. Battery capacity warrenty will expire end of this month. I see 8 bars
40.2 AHr
61% SOH
39.8 Hx

The car will get about 40-50 miles of range with highway driving.
I Will be brining it in for the Leaf tech to check it out early next week. Hoping everything works out and I get a new battery. I will be exciting to drive a almost new Leaf!

^^^
I'm not sure what you mean by "testing failure". You said it shows 8 bars. Off the top of my head, from those numbers, yeah, you should be below 9 bars.

As mentioned, not sure what you mean about "testing failure". You already meet the requirements for a battery replacement. Do not delay, get it in, to start the replacement process ASAP, before the warranty expires.

I have an appointment to bring it in when their tech will be in on Tuesday. Should I try to find a dealer that can do it Monday? It might be challenging to find one within range of my car and it's also challenging if they cant shuttle me home. I've read some reports that the testing has taken up to 2 days.

I'm looking to fail the battery test so I can get a replacement. I've seen many people post about being able to fail the test and receive a new battery.

Congrats: that's exactly the same AHr reading that my 4th bar dropped at! Just go straight to a dealer; most of them know the drill by now (especially in your area).

I would think Tuesday is fine. They probably do a battery test as part of their process, but you have already met the conditions for battery replacement, which is below 9 bars and within the time/mileage window of the warranty. So you don't need to hope. No matter what their "test" says, you should be getting a new battery.

What is the manufacturing date form the label on the driver door jamb?

With that high of a VIN I'm guessing 07/11.

@stanton: Thanks! I have an appointment at the dealer in Fremont tomorrow morning. They want to run a test and then order the part.
@dhanson865: Yes. The date of manufacture is 7/11

@Firetruck, I happened to need a quick charge today and that dealer happen to have a leaf tech that was about to show up to work. Got my battery tested and it failed. :D I'm supposed to be approved for replacement, they are still working on the paperwork. Hope they can give me a ETA tomorrow!
