Using clone ELM327 Bluetooth OBDII adapter with Leaf

just discovered this thread, and installed the app. brilliant! Thanks! I'm using an older noname adapter from ebay (€OBD/OBD it says) and android tablet. The only thing I noticed is that there seem to be large amounts of failed reads - in fact only 15% succesful. Is there any way to reduce the...

A peek at the Leaf's Charger

I did mention the chargers ;-). But you're right. I'd love to know how it works ! Particularly how you control the extra chargers (through the CAN BUS I assume - which is why it depends on LEAFSCAN) ? Anyway, I'd be tempted to order a couple of those chargers, but I think it would be a hefty...

A peek at the Leaf's Charger

In Europe that's different, with 3-phase (380V) public charging points appearing (using a Type 2 / "Mennekes" socket). We'd need 2 extra of these Brusa NLG5 chargers and a Type2 socket on the car to profit from that, for a total of 11kW at 16A :-) Ingineer; no plans for a European kit by any...

OpenEVSE - Open Source Charging Station

Well, "easy" is something else :-) but I've been playing around with the software quite a bit recently, and it seems something that would be do-able. I'm quite willing to give it a go. The only problem is that my code has diverged so far by now, I'm not sure all the original stuff still works...

OpenEVSE - Open Source Charging Station

You could do this nicely in software. Add a menu for the charge time (for example in steps of 1 hr, and 0 meaning no limit) - assuming you have the one-button menu, and then in the loop compare the current charge time to the limit, and set the EVSE in stopped state when past. Similarly you could...

OpenEVSE - Open Source Charging Station

It's great ! And surprisingly, I'm actually using it more to reduce the charging current (to 6A) than to charge faster - this in order to avoid overloading electricity installations in the Bed & Breakfast for example. I should - and will do this, but probably once we're back. So far I have...

OpenEVSE - Open Source Charging Station

Hi Chris, So I'm succesfully using my portable EVSE on our cross-europe journey - thanks ! http://www.grasseglasgow2012.eu One thing I'd like to add is the implementation of the proximity pilot signal to a) check for connector present in my 62196-2 socket (the proximity pin is shortest -...

OpenEVSE - Open Source Charging Station

Actually in the end, the total cost of my EVSE will probably be over $500 all the same - so its not that "cheap" (ok - its a rediculously expensive housing, and yes the color changing lcd is maybe nonsense, but... ;) ). However for that I (hope to) have a small, portable, solid, waterproof EVSE...

Chris - I suspect you have shares in adafruit  - just ordered it too...

OpenEVSE - Open Source Charging Station

I was intending to use one button to cycle over the various options (your suggestion in PM). But; That's cool - the integrated key-pad - too bad I already ordered my LCD :(

OpenEVSE - Open Source Charging Station

Ordered directly from Bals France (couldn't find just the housing on the online shop I linked to - only complete modules - but they were prepared to sell me direct). Bals is a German manufacturer of industrial plugs / distribution boxes etc. The cost - you don't want to know - around $110...

OpenEVSE - Open Source Charging Station

What pin did you use for the toggle switch between different charging rates (6A/10A/13A/16A/30A) ? Seems like only digital7 is left ? Can we keep this dedicated to that - so that different software versions remain compatible ? ps. still waiting on my Type2->Type1 cable + Type2 socket (making my...

OpenEVSE - Open Source Charging Station

I think we all have similar intentions :-). Apart from the LCD & amp select button, I'd also like to add a button for start/stop. And maybe even (far future) a kWh counter... Just received my usb programmer interface, and installed the arduino package. Now just waiting for the rest of the...

OpenEVSE - Open Source Charging Station

I don't know, but I would say it is a good idea anyway (even though there's already the obligatory RCD switch in the electricity panel), and since the board supports it, it would be a shame not to implement it... And I've found a solution for the components :-)

OpenEVSE - Open Source Charging Station

Hi Chris, In the example EVSE you use a 12V power supply rated 5W (450mA). Is that enough if we also want to connect the LCD ? The relay uses about 150mA, so that leaves 300mA for the cpu, and DC/DC to 5V. An LCD will use around 250mA at 5V (for the backlight), but I don't know the efficiency...
