Unbelievable! I went to the Nissan site to check pricing, clicked the locator link after building an S30, and there are apparently 100's of leftover S24's still sitting around on dealers lots all over the place. How low will Nissan have to go to get us to buy any of those? 2016 S30's are now at about $18,000 for lease then buy. 1,999 down/ 199 per month/ purchase for $8,066 at end plus $300.

Interesting that the residual actually mirrors the prices people are paying for these lease returns. As it should be but rarely the case.

Excel Energy in partnership with Nissan is offering a $10k rebate to it's customers. If the customer can take advantage of the federal tax credit the end price for a 30 kWh car before TTL is around 33 - 10 - 7.5 = $15,500. That is cheap ! If you presume the car is worth ~ $8k after 3 years in the private secondary market, 3 years cost $7,500 or about $200 a month.

I'll guess that an S24 cannot be more than $150 a month to entice buyers away from the S30

Nissan is still showing me pop up ads for left over 2016 S30's for $1,999 down/ 199 per month also with $8,066 buy out. 2017 S30's are currently 1,999/ 229 and $8,066 at the end

I didn't look through all 194 cars that came up when I expanded to 250 miles from Syracuse in the "search vehicle inventory" to get up in the price to get to the S30's. You can go to Nissan, build an S30, click on "search inventory" at the end, and start looking through all of the listing based on increasing price starting with the leftover S24's. Even though you built an S30 (with no specific colors, ect) it still shows other years and models.
.
Very few leafs are ever in stock in NY for some reason. Mostly PA, CT, MA, NH.

Are the S30 Leafs located in NY?
How many miles will you car have on it when your lease extension runs out. It seem that Nissan is finally getting realistic about renegotiating a fair retail price for buy outs so you might be able to buy your own car at the end for $7-8,000.

Buying my car isn't an option, because the range is insufficient, and it lacks QC, which we now have available. Any Leaf I lease after this would have to be an SV30 with premium.

Plenty of 2017 SV premiums around. Both Rochester dealers are each showing one. The current lease for the SV is listed as follows: Premium would add a bit more.
.
$1,999 initial payment required at consummation. (Includes $1,690 consumer down payment, $309 first month payment.) (INCLUDES $10,550 manufacturer's rebate applied to $309/Month lease. Offer valid only when financed through Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation.) Subject to residency restrictions.

2017 LEAF SV Trim Lease model 17117 subject to availability to well-qualified lessees through Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation. $35,050 MSRP incl. destination charge. Net capitalized cost of $21,599 includes a $595 non-refundable acquisition fee. Dealer contribution may affect actual price set by dealer. Monthly payments total $11,124 At lease end, purchase for $10,515, plus purchase option fee up to $300

So now I see the 2016 S30 at Middletown NY is still listed. Funny because I called them in December and offered them just about the exact deal that is now running and they acted like I was so far off the mark I was crazy. I told them "well, call me back when you get to my number". which it is right now. And they never did.

There is a 2016 SV premium at

Thanks. I'm going to have to at least drive a Bolt before I settle for a Leaf, though, and will probably be limited to local dealer networks, some of which do extend through Mass.

And every 2016 s24 on cars.com has a 101 mile EPA rating
I was really confused until I did some more digging and put in a random Syracuse zip code (13201).

https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/684284615/overview/ says "101/126 Highway/City MPG". That's not the range rating. That's the stupid MPGe rating: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbs&id=37066.

It looks like there are about 200 S24's left on lots in the USA right now. Maybe normal sales techniniques will be able to unload them on uninformed buyers at the same lease deal as the 2016 S30. The 100,000 mile capacity warranty of the 30kW car is reason enough alone to leave these cars sitting forever not to mention the 20% shorter range.

Nissan could re-manufacture the S24s to have 30kWh packs, and at one stroke make them more appealing to buy and also obtain a stock of 24kWh packs to hand out as warranty replacements for pre-2016 models. That would allow them to prop up their claim that 30kWh packs can't be retrofitted to the earlier vehicles a little longer.
