EXt cold and the trickle charge pops GFCI past 2 nights

With the cold weather in New England I have had the car not get charged past two nights because the GFCI pops in the middle of the night. I have been using the trickle charger for over a month and not had a problem until this week. The car and plug are outside. Is this problem expected ?

It must be cold. The shivering caused you to hit "submit" twice.

It shouldn't happen, but I've had a lot of bad luck with GFCI outlets too. You could try replacing the receptacle with a high-quality one, like this one.
