It would appear that Mitsubishi will have a "Factory EV" entry in the 2012 Pikes Peak Hill Climb. Is Nissan and the Nismo RC going to let the 2012 fun pass them by???

So now Misubishi will be entering two factory i-Miev's. Hiroshi Masuoka will be piloting the highly modified entry and Beccy Gordon will be in the mostly stock EV.

A VERY note worthy entry in the 2012 EV category is the current reigning Pikes Peak champion Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima. His team is constructing an all out purpose built EV to race this year. And just a heads up but Nobuhiro is not going for the EV record, he is going for the overall Pikes Peak record! His record!

I am gonna say it again but is Nissan seeing this??? HELLO Nissan, EV's wanting to race each other... anyone home!

Wow - if Monster Tajima gets anywhere close to 10 minutes it will be a huge success. I wonder what kind of crazy car they are building - his past cars have always been monsters!

Ya! His Ride has as much in common with a stock Suzuki as a chocolate soldier has in common with a Navy Seal.

The LEAF had a respectable performance in last year's race (14:33, 51 mph) so perhaps it's "been there, done that" this year.

Course Map

I suppose some of the folks here would consider it a failure if the racers didn't average at least 5 miles/kWh. After all, they can do it...

With the course now entirely paved, why would Nissan not just show up with a Nismo RC and run it straight up against the modified Mitsu?!? The 100mph RC top speed would not be a handicap on this course. If Nissan really wanted to impress they would even run a twin motor version of the RC since its already RWD. The vectored torque data would be quite valuable... and a win or two even more.

Here are pics of the Mitsu Pikes Peak EV entries.

They could even reduce the diameter of the wheels and thus increase torque if the circuit is top speed limited.
