Okay, my relationship with my 2011 LEAF has been trouble free so far. Did a search but seems no one has asked this...

Anything I should ask the dealer to look at or check before the end of 3 years ? ...

With a few days remaining in my factory warranty period, I'll be going somewhere in Los Angeles to get a battery check so a Nissan service can give me the useless 5 star report (and yes, I will pay for this quasi useless information, but I digress).

Me, can't think of anything. Perhaps there is a higher quality printout of the battery report?

I guess I should count my blessings, and move forward waiting to lose my closely remaining second bar... Comments, speculation, advice appreciated...

Jim

Yes. I just went in for my third annual battery check and also had the following concerns/things to have checked before my 3yr/36,000 mile warranty was over:

1) had them check a click(or clunk) noise every time I stopped and every time I accelerated after a stop. Turns out there was a Nissan Technical Bulletin (NTB 12-055b) for this. The mechanic
"Removed axels from hub assy, removed corrosion and applied molycote grease to mating surface on both sides. Reassembled with new axle nuts, cotter pins and washers. Torqued axle nut to 92 ft lbs. Could not hear same noise after."

2) my passenger window had always been slower to go up and down than other windows. I had read that some people needed the window regulator replaced, others just needed a some silicon spray applied to the window rails. I had them check mine. They applied silicon spray and that did the trick - now just as fast going up and down as the other windows. If ,however, a mechanical problem occurs later I can say the problem was not really fix before the warranty expired. But hopefully not necessary.

3) I talked with two dealers about getting a detailed battery report, something better than the Five Star Report, but to no avail. Will just have to invest in one of the recently developed Android or AppleOS applications to get what I want.

I ended up going to Mossy Nissan Kearny Mesa Dealership in San Diego. I had excellent interaction with the Service Advisor and the Technical Leaf Specialist Mechanic on all my questions.

Paid $55 for the Battery Check, opted out of the in-cabin filter replacement and brake fluid replacement which I had paid for the year before.

P.s. Also had the brake control module reprogrammed per bulletin 12-086a, for minor brake grabbiness at slow speeds - perhaps really didn't need this and not a real big difference, but again had good interaction with mechanic on reason this sometimes occurs when transitioning from regen to use of brake pads.

Good Luck with Your Check Up on your car!

I think I'll do that "silicon spray on passenger window rails" thing as well since it seems to do the trick. (Luckily) I have had no problems either, but I know I'll need the annual battery check (even if I have to pay for it) in preparation for a (free) warranty battery pack replacement next year.

Definitely make sure you get or have had the "grabby brakes" at slow speed update, as others mentioned any slow moving windows, any creeks, clicks, clunks, other strange noises, have them test the 12 volt battery, make sure no bulbs are burnt out, that both keys are not reporting low battery, and of course they any of the "multi point inspection" stuff that they offer to do for free.

Wow, I have to say that the all of you are so much smarter than I am... And it seems like a good idea to have them lube the windows regardless to reduce wear on the mechanism, that seems to be engineered on the weaker side to begin with...

Thanks, and now I just need to decide if the Nissan in Downtown Los Angeles is the best place. If the "battery check" price is in the ballpark, yes they are...

Again, much thanks!

My LEAF tech wasn't too concerned that the slow to roll up issue would lead to early failure but I find it very annoying how slow they get and after he cleaned/lubed them they were really quick again.

One other thing to check is that all the door locks are working. For unlock/lock and check if they are all locked. Then unlock and check if they are all unlocked. Repeat until you are comfortable that they are working properly. I had to replace two of them recently.

Any idea what did he use for lubing??? Was it dry Silicon or wet silicon??

No idea. Maybe it's outlined in a Nissan TSB or the service manual?

My service writer, Ace, at Downtown Nissan is helping me. They are doing Mr. LEAF right now. They are going to ask the tech what kind of silicone is used... Stand by...

Get a quote for an extended warranty, it should be cheaper if the factory warranty is still in force. Then you won't have to worry about anything going awry. I've used my extended warranty to replace the window master switch already.

Then take that quote and throw it in the thrash because otherwise you will be so angry that your dealership is ripping you off when you get a quote from http://nissansantarosaservicecontracts.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks for the link!!

I had decided not to buy an extended contract for my Wife's Altima because the quote was too much. These guys undercut the price by 30% !! I think I can afford that :)

Yeah, it really is wild how much better the pricing is. I was helping mom buy a Honda and we kept resisting the warranty until we got down to the employee price. It seemed like a reasonable price and she was going to own the car longer than the extended warranty. We bought it but when I got home I found a similiar dealer doing the same thing and it was significantly cheaper so we returned it and bought it from there.

Nissan even offers 0% payment plan for the warranty. Note that if you add it after about 10k miles or so there is an additional fee and you need to have your dealer fill out an inspection form so while I paid a little more by waiting I'm glad I did since I wasn't sure if I was going to buy my lease out at the end of it.

Do we still get the free roadside assistance after the 3 years are up - with battery degradation, this is when I might need it!
Better get AAA. Nissan is off the hook at 36/36.
