Savings $448 in fuel costs per month
Edit: I see folks are posting lifetime savings, so I have 11.5 months and 22,000 miles, so 11.5 * $448 = $5,152 total savings
I replaced a 16mpg minivan (with 140,000 miles).
At $4 gal (we're inching toward $5 in San Diego), and the 2000 miles that I drive per month, the math is:
2000 / 16 = 125 gallons * $4 = $500
The LEAF on it's dedicated meter at 7.7 cents from midnight to 5am, and 3miles/kWh from the wall, is:
2000 / 3 = 666.67 kWh * $.077 = $51.33
Note: that minivan was a maintenance PIG; add up all those oil changes, brakes every 30,000 miles max, flushing all the fluids (trans at $100 a pop), air filters, all the leaking seals in the engine, drive half shafts, both door window regulators, several 12 volt batteries (which the LEAF will do also), and lots and lots of little things that add up. One thing better on the minivan was the tires. They are really bad on the LEAF, and mine will need replacement soon.
