True. I think they will get an actual electrician to do that part of the job.Ingineer said:I can't even fathom having "Geek Squad" install a 240V anything... Seems like insanity!
Since Leaf got 73 miles rating, Focus EV will probably get less than 70 miles. Since they haven't announced any other range - that 68 miles (or whatever) will stick in everyone's mind. Not good for Ford.Ready2plugin said:I'll get excited with they come out with an actual range, delivery estimate and price. Being heavier than the LEAF with the same size pack, I have my doubts about the mileage.
A "Geek Squad" install consists of taking something out of a box and plugging it in. That's it...Ingineer said:I can't even fathom having "Geek Squad" install a 240V anything... Seems like insanity!

No, but they still do...LakeLeaf said:DarkStar said:A "Geek Squad" install consists of taking something out of a box and plugging it in. That's it...Ingineer said:I can't even fathom having "Geek Squad" install a 240V anything... Seems like insanity!
Are they really qualified to do that?
How is the 6.6 charger really new technology? The EV1 came with a 6.6 kW charger even though it was external."The 6.6 charger is a really new technology."
If they can mount a Plasma TV on the wall, or plug in a dryer, they can install an EVSE. Licensed electrician will install the outlet.Ingineer said:I can't even fathom having "Geek Squad" install a 240V anything... Seems like insanity!
The dog & pony show they did in CES was really misleading. They showed a couple of guys come with the EVSE, plug it in and start charging - implying that it will take minutes to get the "Ford EVSE" installed. Focus EV customers will be in for a rude shock when they find out the truth.KeiJidosha said:If they can mount a Plasma TV on the wall, or plug in a dryer, they can install an EVSE. This just exemplifies how easy the install is actually is. I would far prefer GS to AVIngineer said:I can't even fathom having "Geek Squad" install a 240V anything... Seems like insanity!
No kidding - these types of chargers have been around for ages - nothing new.Spies said:How is the 6.6 charger really new technology? The EV1 came with a 6.6 kW charger even though it was external."The 6.6 charger is a really new technology."
May be they assume 16 amps - so 16*120*12 = 23 kwh. I guess just wrong information.garygid said:Notice they say 120v charging in 12 hours.
Assuming "normal" 12-amp current from 120v, that's 1440 watts. 12 hours of 1.44 kW is 17.28 kWh.
That would mean they have at most a "usable" battery pack capacity of about 16 kWh (grin, LEAF wins).
No. They are saying 12 hours for Focus EV compared to 20 hours for Leaf.Ingineer said:They might also assume that the pack is not fully depleted.
I wonder if the Ford L1 will be selectable between 12 & 16, would have worked well on Leaf also.evnow said:No. They are saying 12 hours for Focus EV compared to 20 hours for Leaf.Ingineer said:They might also assume that the pack is not fully depleted.
I think they are saying their L1 is capable of 16 Amps, instead of Leaf's 12 Amps.
