A little bit off topic, but does anyone make a J1772 10 or 20 foot extension cord? I imagine there is a reason not, but it would solve a lot of those public parking problems. In one of the spots I have gone to there are usually a leaf or a volt parked in the EV only spots in front of the evse, but neither of them are plugged in, drives me nuts...

I looked a bit and found a couple in the $300 range. Not sure if that's worth it for the number of times I might use it, but I suppose those cords are not cheap.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a photo set from Atlanta, GA. There is a free charging location at Atlantic Station. They have multiple J1772 240 volt units and one DC Chademo Fast Chargers. Apparently, some have complained about people leaving cars unattended at the DC charger so the complex posted a best practices sign. Obviously, the rules don't apply to this particular individual who left his car while DC charging. When I arrived, the car had charged for 20 minutes of a 30 minute session. People that use the 240V chargers may leave their cars and shop while charging. The posted signs are very easy to understand. The person parked next to the DC charger using slower plug and leave chargers came back from shopping. I took her spot to see if the cable would reach. Fortunate for me it did. I ended up waiting a total of 40 minutes. I charged my car for 15 minutes, another person was in que for the DC gun and the RED LEAF owner is still no where to be found.

The guy took up the spot the entire hour I was there, disregarded the posted signs and obviously thinks of nobody but himself. I intended on buying shoe polish to remind offenders to stay with their car. I guess a post it note may be nicer but my time is just as important as theirs.

If they had sited the fast charger at the apex of 4 parking spaces, then all they would have to do is put up a sign saying 'you can unplug any EV that is fast charging and use it for yourself, if the driver is not present'! That'd encourage them to stay with the car, or use the 240V!! If there is then a 240V charger in each of the 4 bays too, then you can pull up at any of those and be sure to get some sort of charge going, and maybe ask a DC charge-ist how long they'll take with it.

With a lead that long, it'd probably cover 6 bays.

That sort of protocol is a really good idea, actually, because it means if you really need the charge to get somewhere, you're gonna stay to get the charger next. If you're simply after a bit of free juice, you can either risk taking a fast charge that might get disconnected, or just stick with the 240V.

I'm just glad the driver had not locked his port on the car and that the 240 volt user returned so I could power up.

This isn't my photo.. Somebody posted it on plug-share yesterday of a charging station near me. So I thought I would share. This jerkwad is blocking two stations with his tank.

OK I understand all the angst against this moron, but this goes to show the signage is only as good as the people who enforce it. Did this guy do it intentionally, of course, does that give anybody the right to damage the car - no. Whoever took the picture should have also called the owner of the property to have the truck towed. If it was on City property then call the local traffic enforcement agency. Let's be civil and not advocate more road rage.

I am glad they will do that where you live. In two instances (once at a mall, once at a Casino) I have asked properties to make a simple PA announcement requesting that the ICEr move his car. In both cases they refused.

Sometimes the City itself is guilty party.

A little  air out of ones tires isn't damaging anything.

There's no need to be vindictive. Leaving a polite notice is the civilised thing to do ... but there again, it can get windy, so just remember there are some very strong glues you might want to think about using to attach it!

Attitude as big as the Lone Star State. Definitely flatten the tires. On driver's side.
Of course then he might pull out a big knife and cut the J1772 lines.
Or pull out a 45 and shoot up both charging stations, and render them dead.
So, ultimately, not advisable.
