Has anyone used the Conti Mobility Kit that comes with the LEAF as a simple inflator without attaching the goo? Would be handy to use as a compact tool to top up tire pressures if it works.

Yep, it works fine.

Awesome! Going to keep it in the RAV since the Toyota-supplied mobility kit can't be used without the goo annoyingly (the air hose is actually part of the goo bottle).

Just FYI, the Continental Mobility kit that comes with the car states this warning about using the tire sealant:
"This product's sealant may interfere with the tire pressure monitoring sensors on vehicles with direct TPMS, possibly leading to error prompts and incorrect pressure readings. Use of this product on direct TPMS vehicles could also result in damage to the tire pressure sensor inside the wheel. Please contact your sales specialist at Tire Rack for more information."

However, our new Acura was shipped with the Mobility kit only Acura replaced their goo with Acura Sealant, and it says this on the label:
"Does the sealant affect the TPMS system in my vehicle?

No, the Acura tire sealant and inflator kit sealant will not affect the TPMS sensors or system in the vehicle (other sealants may, however). If the tire is repaired after using the supplied sealant, the sealant should be flushed from the TPMS sensor using cool water."

So, you might want to consider buying some of the Acura sealant.

There are actually two versions of the Continental kit - one has the goo built in and the other doesn't. The one that doesn't have goo built in is the one that came with the LEAF (at least in 2011). Using without the goo, as Tom said is possible, would mean just using it to pump up the tires (i.e. from 28psi to 32psi) rather than seal a flat. Handy when going on a road trip that involves big elevation and temperature changes as I'll be doing next week driving the RAV4 EV to Utah.
