Hello everyone

I got my portable EVSE L1 stolen last week while I was charging at work. I was surprised to see how easy and fast it was stolen even if it was on position LOCK on the charging port. I was curious to see how efficient this anti-theft system was, and I thought you would be interested to see the result on video (please select the english subs).

All Leaf owners should be aware of this. Please share. This video was also sent to Nissan and I hope that the engineers will think of a better concept soon!!

I have also regrouped different methods to secure the portable EVSE : http://menu-principal-forums-aveq.1...le-Lock-sur-la-Nissan-Leaf-Video-tp12082.html

I really wish L1 had just been similar to a block heater or they had to designed the charge port to be deep enough to lift it up then close it after the charger is connected.

Watching that video just gave me an idea. Many times when carrying cargo out the back of a hatch back with an open hatch I've used a metal clip, bungee cord end and clipped it into the stock latch for the hatch. A small chain may work in the stock latch for the charge door that can then be locked to the evse cable. You wouldn't need to unlock it to remove as you would simply use the hatch release on the cars key.

At least Nissan could hold a gun to his head at that price!

He'd be better off just getting a new one from the U.S.

The biggest shock to me in that whole video is the $2200 replacement cost in Canada!

Wow!
At $2200 I can get a whole bunch of level 2 EVSE's.

I don't often have need of the supplied L1, but I always carry it and 100' of 12 gauge extension cord with me just in case.

And this is how we roll in America :D

THAT'S a lock!

Thanks for sharing the video. This was sent to Nissan as well, I'm awaiting their comment. Hopefully this video will prevent this bad incident from happening again to any Leaf owner, and maybe will also ring a bell to Nissan's engineers.

Have one of you ever checked directly with your Nissan dealer how much a new portable EVSE would be?

EVSEUPGRADE.COM still has the limited time only $649 brand new upgraded unit. Ships as 20 amp max in US, but if you have the right 240V outlet to supply it they will provide code for it to go up to 25 amps.
http://evseupgrade.com/?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=5" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Avoid the dealer.
Buy new upgraded unit from evseupgrade.
Only cheaper option is openevse.
