Yonkers NY Leafer here, I'm very happy with it and the range proves more than adequate for my usual 30-40mile daily use. The only problem I have is that at least where I live, my electric rate is very high, I pay average including delivery 23 cents per KW. ConEd :x does nothing for electric vehicle owners. When you do the math, if you average say 3.5 -4 miles a KW, you'll notice that a prius is just as cheap to run. However I have to say that driving the leaf is far superior than driving a prius, the leaf has some serious torque.

Have you considered solar?

I second that, at least if you own your home and have a good view of the sky. There are a few companies who will give you a free quote, and will tell you how well a system may or may not work for you. Plus NYS has some incredible deals for solar: $1.75/watt from NYSERDA, 25% tax credit from NYS and that's on top of the 30% federal tax credit. I have a 3.68kW(DC) system installed for less than $1/watt. Payback is 7-8 years, warrantied for 25! Plus, Yonkers gets much more sun than Syracuse, and your electricity cost is double mine. My system in Yonkers would have a 3-4 year payback!

I was under the impression that home solar panels where only viable in southern states like fl, ill look into getting a quote, thanks

It's more viable in southern and especially southwestern states, but the viability depends to a great deal on how much you're paying for grid electricity versus how much the solar will cost you and how much energy you'll get from it. Definitely, get a quote or three.

Anyone else live about 50 miles from Woodbury Commons Outlets in Orange County? We're in Poughkeepsie but it looks like southern Westchester and NYC are both in that range as well.. it would be awesome if they put in some L2 chargers there so we can make the trip without worrying about the return. We went to their website, contacted them and got the following response:
Thanks for your email. We do not have an electric charging station at Woodbury Common Premium Outlets. We have them in selected centers in California but will pass along your request for Woodbury Common
I'm thinking that if enough people inquire they may get prodded to put some in :D What do you guys think? Here's the link to their contact page:

I'm 65 miles from Woodbury Commons. I'd definitely make the trip if they put in some L2. A QC would be even better! It would be a nice pit stop on the way up the Thruway.

I'm a little far from Woodbury Commons, but I frequently travel down to the Hudson Valley. In fact I'm heading to Carmel tomorrow (34 miles from Woodbury Commons). If they had a DC QC, it would go a long way towards allowing me to make the trip in my Leaf. Even an L2 would help. I will definitely be in touch with them.

It looks like we have our first Quick Charge station in New York! http://www.greencarreports.com/news...-myths-realities-and-nyc-rollout-plans-videos

In the second video, Ari Kahn talks about the QC installed at Seward Park Coop on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, and says that it is one of 3 being installed in NYC, with the other two reserved for the Nissan Leaf Taxis that the TLC is getting. So, the one in Seward Park is open to the public. From the photo he showed during the presentation, it appears to have been installed in early January, and it sounds like it might already be open for public use. I'm going to go into the city and try it out! It's only 20 something miles from me, so even if it doesn't work, I can get home just fine.

Wappingers here. We plan on buying sometime this month, but after everything I've read I plan on passing on the QC port. By the time NY has enough QC ports available to truly change our daily driving habits, we'll be driving in our 2nd generation EV. It's on the horizon...but these types of changes always take longer than expected.
I agree..A L2 at Woodbury Commons would be perfect.

May I ask what dealer you purchased your Leaf through? What was your opinion of them?

Thanks!

Having that QC port will improve your resale value a bit, if you plan to buy.. its not something that can be retrofitted later on. You may end up buying a home charger that uses that port, if they ever become available.

I ended up ordering my 2013 SV from Curry Nissan in Yorktown. Poughkeepsie Nissan was nice but they didn't give me the trade I wanted and Newburgh wouldn't even price me on my trade: "When the car comes in in six to eight weeks we'll tell you how much we'll give you". Curry seems to go that extra distance to make the deal since I was coming down from Pok and they knew I would just order from up here if they were the same price. If you do go down there talk to Justin - he's new there but he's very nice and was very up front with me about everything.

Oh, something else to consider in my case was that I was just going to order through the VPP, so it really didn't matter where I went - I based my decision on the value I'd get for my trade alone. If you're a fellow IBMer make sure you take advantage of that.

As far as the QC, I didn't get one. The Leaf is our 2nd car and I just couldn't see an occasion where we would be in a bind where we only had a short period of time and had to put on lots of charge. Once Woodbury gets an L2 (make sure you contact them! :D ) all my range anxiety issues are nil. I'm not too concerned with resale.. hoping to own this Leaf for many maintenance free years to come. Good luck! Hope to see you down Route 9

We're going to go with the SV as well...and I agree...we tend to hold on to our cars for quite a long time, and as a 2nd car in a family full of short-term commutes of less than 20 miles a day, the QC port isn't practical yet. I will follow up with Woodbury Commons.

I've been at Poughkeepsie Nissan twice in recent weeks for some general information, and more recently to test drive the 2013 they just got in (the only one). The salesman I've dealt with on both occasions has tried to be very helpful, although it was obvious he was not the EV specialist of the dealership, so I'm going to give them first shot.

This is just a straight purchase for me, without a trade (too many drivers in my family now...very scary time indeed). I'm just up the street from you at CH, but surprisingly they don't seem to be a corporate associate of Nissan...even though we have a Leaf and a Volt in our parking lot...so this will be an old fashion negotiation. I've been spending a lot of time on TrueCar, so I'll know if they are in the ballpark. If I don't like what I hear, I'll definitely reach out to Justin at Curry.

Thanks for the info. Congratulations on your new ride!

Fred

The QC in Manhattan sounds like it is working, but apparently no one has bothered to test it yet. The folks from Seward Park would like me to drive into the city to be the first car to test it out.

In other news, I discovered a working QC at a 7-11 in Flushing, Queens today. Someone posted it on PlugShare yesterday and I went to check it out, and it's legit! http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=12381&start=0#p284279

I read that post as well as I may just have to chrage up at work and head to Flushing test it out. At least the folks at 7-11 will see it being used. Maybe I'll make it a monthy pilgamage, at least until they power that be wise up and put one smack in the middle of Long Island.

At least there is some progress.

That's very exciting news! Until now, I thought there were zero QCs in NYS. Now I find out there are 2? Good deal!
