    Calculating electricity expense

Using time and watts and rates is overly complicated. Much simpler to use miles. You'll get about 3 miles per kWh. If you drive 1000 miles a month you'll use 333 kWh which will cost you $37 in the summer and $30 in the winter. Should be a bit better because you'll get more miles per kWh in the...

    Think I can make it?

That's it. I've never started at or above 50%. Thanks.

    Think I can make it?

My 2011 MY keeps charging beyond 80%. Maybe you have the timer on and it's set to stop charging at 80%?

    Think I can make it?

You can set the Blink QC to charge to higher than 80%. The charging rate slows down but you can do it. On the screen which gives you the charging option just go to "Other".

Request for help - 2012 Leaf lease issue - Leased Dec 2012

I found this: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/1233302/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Hopefully this will help. I didn't spend any time on this BTW. This adjustment you want should not be a big deal. There is a specific reduction in the residual when going from 12K to...

    Air density, temperature, and range

You raise an interesting issue. However, the Argonne AVTA study from 12 October 2012 says the ONLY thing that matters is the heater. For 20F, 72F, and 95F the amount of energy used on the City and Highway Cycles stays EXACTLY the same (Page 32). That includes inertial energy, regen, load energy...

    End of Lease Decision Framework

Your residual is a few thousand above the fair market value. Basically you made a good decision when you leased because the residual turned out to be lower than the lessor bet it would. Buying the car at the residual turns the win into a loss. That doesn't make a lot of sense. If Nissan is...

2013 August Plugin Sales Discussion : 50,000 EVs since 2011

True that. On the other hand it's very encouraging since without the former you definitely don't get the latter. The sales funnel means the more "lookers" you have the more "buyers" you end up having.

GM : Still doesn't believe in EVs in the long term

EVs offer advantages hybrids don't. Things like vastly superior performance, ride, NHV, and handling. Hybrids are more or less only about better MPG and savings money. Tesla has shown that saving money is not necessarily even in the equation. The Tesla demographic is male and the attributes of...

GM developing 200 mile, $30k EV??

All good points. Note that the cost of the batteries decreases because the amount of raw material needed per kWh decreases. This means that cost, volume, and mass go down together. I think it should be a working assumption that Nissan currently has the battery technology which would enable it to...

sudden loss of regen. or accel problem

I know that. It just doesn't feel any different to me. I don't drive in ECO, so maybe that's it, but the driving experience is the same whether I leave the house and drive down the hill with 12, 6, or 2 bars.

GM developing 200 mile, $30k EV??

Why would it be a Spark? That's highly unlikely. More likely would be the next generation platform which was designed in part for EREVs and BEVs. Should be plenty of space. The Model S has room for an 80 kWh pack and it uses very space inefficient cylindrical cells. Note that Parks didn't say...

GM developing 200 mile, $30k EV??

The Volt's MSRP is $34,145 and has been since the $5000 price cut of a month or two ago. But the bigger problem is that using the Volt as a basis for estimating the cost of a BEV is conceptually deficient. A BEV is much simpler and less expensive to build than an EREV. For BEV costs look at the...

sudden loss of regen. or accel problem

I haven't noticed a change in the regen. Then again some people have reported that regen behavior changes when they charge to 100% and then drive but I've never noticed that either. I have noticed that the brakes are somewhat less grabby. If it bothers you take the car to the dealer, tell them...

GM developing 200 mile, $30k EV??

The point being what? Of course a larger battery pack will increase the cost of manufacturing the car. That doesn't mean, however, that doubling the pack cost will also double all other costs. In fact the other costs won't change much if at all. If the steering column costs $50 for a car with a...

GM developing 200 mile, $30k EV??

I have trouble seeing how the Tesla model scales. Agree that Tesla won't have a 200 mile EV for $30K anytime soon. Hard to see how Tesla makes any car for $30K much less an EV with a 200 mile range. Doesn't have the scale. GM has the scale but it's hard to see how it can make a 200 mile EV for...

GM developing 200 mile, $30k EV??

The further the EV goes the more credits you get. The more credits you get the more Tundras and Silverados you can sell. You need to do a little work understanding costs. You're treating ex post facto averages as fixed costs. This is obviously untrue. Adding $500 to a vehicle's interior doesn't...

    End of Lease Decision Framework

I believe you can also extend the lease for nine months. That might be of interest if a new model you're interested in is coming but you need a few months.

Form Letter to "Opt Out" of the Nissan Class Action by Oct28

This. Opting out gives you what you'd get if you didn't PLUS anything else you can get. No rational reason to stay in the class.
